Check Out Loran Wallace’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Loran Wallace.

Hi Loran, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always been drawn to understanding people and helping them navigate life’s challenges, which led me to study psychology at Texas State University and then pursue a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Northern Arizona University. Early in my career, I worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings with individuals, teens, young adults, couples, and families, which gave me a broad perspective on how trauma and relational patterns shape our lives. Over time, I realized my passion was in trauma work, especially developmental and attachment-focused trauma, and helping clients rebuild self-worth and healthier relationships.

That led me to get certified in EMDR and Accelerated Resolution Therapy, and eventually I opened my private practice, Renew Education and Healing, here in Scottsdale. Today, I combine education, compassion, and accountability in my work, helping clients process trauma, understand themselves more fully, and create meaningful, lasting change in their lives.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road; any meaningful career in mental health comes with its challenges. Early on, I faced the usual hurdles of training, gaining experience, and figuring out the type of work I wanted to focus on. Around the same time, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, which added a massive layer of difficulty. Balancing personal health challenges with the demands of training and early clinical work taught me a lot about resilience, pacing myself, and the importance of self-care.

Working in inpatient settings could be intense and emotionally taxing, but it reinforced why I wanted to focus on trauma, attachment, and developmental healing. Building my private practice brought its own challenges—learning marketing, operations, and client outreach while staying grounded in therapy. Each step required patience, trial and error, and a commitment to creating a practice that blends compassion with accountability, offering deep, lasting healing for trauma survivors.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and EMDR-certified therapist in Scottsdale, Arizona, and I specialize in helping adults heal from trauma, particularly developmental and attachment-related wounds. My work often focuses on complex PTSD, emotional neglect, anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, and patterns rooted in early life experiences.

What I’m most proud of is the way my practice blends compassion with accountability. I help clients feel supported, validated, and seen, while also guiding them to confront the patterns and beliefs that hold them back. Many clients come in feeling stuck or disconnected, and over time they leave with greater self-awareness, confidence, and the ability to create healthier, more fulfilling relationships.

What sets me apart is my integrative approach. I combine EMDR, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, and other evidence-based methods to address trauma on both a cognitive and somatic level. I prioritize education and helping clients understand why they feel the way they do, while also giving them practical tools to change long-standing patterns. Simply put, I guide people to not just survive, but to thrive.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Arizona is the combination of community and nature. The mental health community here has been incredibly supportive and uplifting, especially as I’ve been building my own practice. I also love the outdoors—hiking, rock climbing, and simply being in nature make Arizona an ideal place to live and recharge.

What I like least is probably the hustle and bustle in some areas and, of course, the extreme heat. I also wish Arizona were a bit more inclusive and diverse in certain spaces, though I do see positive efforts being made, and I hope that continues to grow.
