Today we’d like to introduce you to Latasha Flowers

Latasha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story started when my only son was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD. At the time I had no knowledge of what that exactly meant. I started my research and found that I had a journey ahead of me. To keep it short I now have learned so much, my son is now 19 and very inspirational to my life. He’s brought me into his world and I’ve been living with purpose since.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not, it’s been the very opposite to keep it honest. But I wouldn’t trade my story for anyone else story. We’ve had to learn to communicate differently. We had to find creative ways to help him as he struggled daily with communication challenges. Sometimes I think he’s just stuck inside himself and expressing himself can be very difficult. However, God built me for this so I’ve decided to join him in his journey. I wanted to learn and help him so that he’s getting the best care. So I had to stop work and learn to depend on my husband. Thank God for him because I’ve learned his role was very important to our family.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a behavioral coach working to become a licensed Registered Behavioral Technician. I coach learners to challenge whatever behaviors they have from communication skills to life skills. It’s been an amazing journey as I started working with children outside of my own when my son was about 8 years old. I learned no career was more important than what I was experiencing each day with these phenomenal individuals. So I started just helping in multiple classrooms as a paraprofessional.

What matters most to you?
My family matters the most because he was the reason that I started in this field at all. Otherwise I would’ve never known the struggles of disabled individuals.
