Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenyatta Jennings.

Hi Kenyatta, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have never fully believed in myself enough to actively pursue anything.

I would do many jobs throughout my life, everything from cleaning to Customer Service call centers. A few months ago, due to rapid rent increases and personal problems, I, along with two kids were forced from our home. We ended up being blessed with the opportunity to stay with close family members.

I continued to work my temporary job as it was promised to last for months to come, and I was assured by the company that “we” were the select few chosen to stay.

What a lie! A couple of months later, I am left jobless to add to my list of woes. I was devastated and overwhelmed. It was at this very moment that I decided to take control of my own destiny and never allow anyone else to use me and discard me as if I were disposable.

With only a $400 loan and a burning desire to succeed, I started to finish what I had begun, my pursuit of happiness. I already had the LLC, and always loved to decorate and create things, so scented, edible candles have been my first “baby” to be born unto my business. I work out of my family’s garage and me and my daughter, make everything from scratch.

Nothing is pre-made and we use no blueprints. Only our imaginations and determination to end this poverty-stricken life that we have been subjected to. I use word of mouth and Social Media to advertise my creations and hope to one day own my own candle shop.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Far from smooth… Some of the struggles that I am facing are homelessness and lack of stable housing.

Lack of financial resources is also a major factor, as well as trying to balance starting a business while still working a job, and raising kids.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in custom, handmade candles, and other handmade creations!

Each candle is unique and made from love! Everything is 100% unique as I use no blueprints. I imagine it and then I create it.

They mostly resemble drinks/desserts, but I am not limited to only that. I am most proud of finally believing in myself and setting all fears and negativity to the side to walk in my purpose.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My kids are my biggest supporters! They are the reason I do what I do and without them and God nothing would be possible. They are always willing to put in hours to help me make/photograph/promote my business endeavors.
