Check Out Julie Kessler’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Kessler

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 2021, the Kessler family had their roof replaced, a routine event that turned into a devastating tragedy. Due to a lack of communication from the roofing contractor, a thin, clear tarp was placed over their pool without their knowledge. Unaware of the tarp, Julie let her dogs outside that day, just as she did every other day. Oakley, one of the family’s three dogs, noticed something unusual about the pool’s surface and stepped onto it, falling in. Oakley had never shown interest in the pool before, so Julie didn’t think to check. When she looked outside and didn’t see him, panic set in. Julie ran to the pool and jumped in, but tragically, she was unable to save Oakley’s life.
Heartbroken by the loss, Julie realized in that moment that the same thing could have happened to a child. That day, she formed Oakley’s Oath, driven by the purpose to ensure no family would have to endure a similar tragedy.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Losing Oakley was an unimaginable loss for the Kessler family, and starting Oakley’s Oath has been a journey filled with it’s own challenges. As Julie has shared her story, countless others have come forward with similar experiences, highlighting just how widespread this issue truly is. Despite this, it remains an often-overlooked problem, and we face significant difficulty in helping others understand the critical importance of addressing this communication gap. Gaining the support needed to educate and raise awareness has been an uphill battle, but we remain committed to our mission of preventing future tragedies.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
