Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Dillaha.
Hi Joshua, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve spent more than two decades immersed in the world of fitness, movement, and human performance, but my journey truly began during my time in the United States Marine Corps. I served for 15 years in various leadership roles, and it was there that I developed a deep respect for the human body’s capacity to adapt, endure, and overcome. My experience working with tactical athletes, training Marines, and witnessing both the power and vulnerability of the body in high-stress environments shaped my philosophy on strength and movement.
After leaving the military, I pursued my degree in Kinesiology and Biomechanics, followed by a master’s in Strength and Conditioning. I immersed myself in evidence-based practice, combining academic knowledge with real-world application. My career in the fitness industry took me from working as a personal trainer and coach to managing a large corporate gym, but ultimately, I wanted to build something of my own—something that reflected my values, standards, and passion for movement science.
That vision became Semper Fitness Training, my private training studio in Sierra Vista, Arizona. The name “Semper” isn’t just a nod to my Marine Corps roots—it’s a reminder to always remain steadfast in purpose. My approach blends biomechanics, gait analysis, and strength and conditioning principles to help people move better, feel stronger, and reclaim their quality of life. I’ve had the privilege of working with athletes, veterans, tactical professionals, and everyday individuals, each with their own unique goals and challenges.
Today, my work extends beyond the studio. I serve on multiple committees and advisory boards with the National Strength and Conditioning Association, where I contribute to shaping the profession and raising the standard of what quality training should look like. I believe that fitness should be rooted in science, not trends, and my mission is to educate, serve, and build a stronger community—one client at a time.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not—it’s been anything but smooth, and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. The challenges are what shaped both my character and my business.
When I left the Marine Corps, I stepped out of a structured environment where everything had a clear chain of command and into the uncertainty of civilian life and entrepreneurship. That transition alone was a battle—learning how to rebuild my identity outside of uniform, figuring out how to navigate business ownership, and facing the financial realities of starting something from the ground up.
In those early years, I wore every hat: trainer, janitor, marketer, accountant, and everything in between. There were countless nights of exhaustion and doubt—trying to grow a business while also raising my daughter as a single parent. Balancing the demands of entrepreneurship with the responsibilities of fatherhood was one of the hardest and most defining seasons of my life. There were days I questioned if I could keep it all together, but giving up was never an option.
The biggest battles weren’t just financial or logistical—they were internal. I wrestled with fear, pressure, and the weight of wanting to build something lasting not just for myself, but for her future. Every setback forced me to adapt, grow, and lead with resilience. Those struggles didn’t break me; they built the foundation that Semper Fitness Training stands on today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At my core, I’m a kinesiologist, movement specialist, and strength coach who believes that fitness should be rooted in science—not trends. I’m the founder of Semper Fitness Training, a private training studio in Sierra Vista, Arizona, where my focus is on helping people move better, get stronger, and live pain-free, capable lives.
My background is a little different from many in the fitness industry. I spent 15 years in the Marine Corps, where I trained tactical athletes and led Marines in both high-intensity training environments and real-world missions. That experience gave me a deep understanding of how the human body performs under stress, how it breaks down, and—most importantly—how it can rebuild.
Professionally, I specialize in biomechanics, gait analysis, and strength and conditioning. My approach blends movement assessments with structured, evidence-based programming. I don’t just hand clients a workout; I help them understand why their body moves the way it does, how to fix dysfunction, and how to build lasting strength. Many of my clients come to me after injuries or failed attempts with “quick fix” programs. Seeing them regain confidence in their movement and strength is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.
What I’m most proud of is the trust people place in me. I’ve had the privilege of working with veterans, tactical professionals, athletes, and everyday individuals who want to reclaim their quality of life. I’ve built a business that reflects my values—one that focuses on service, education, and real results.
What sets me apart is my ability to bridge the gap between rehab and performance. My work isn’t about chasing trends; it’s about building resilient, capable bodies through intelligent programming and movement mastery. It’s a system built on discipline, science, and genuine care for the people I serve.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is being a good father and a strong role model for my daughter. At the end of the day, every professional accomplishment and every milestone I achieve means little if I’m not setting the right example for her.
I want to live a life that she can be proud of—one that shows her the value of hard work, integrity, discipline, and perseverance. My hope is that when she looks back, she doesn’t just see what I built but how I built it: through grit, service to others, and never backing down from challenges.
Everything I do—whether it’s growing Semper Fitness Training, serving my community, or pushing myself to keep learning—is ultimately about creating a legacy she can be proud to emulate. If I can raise her to believe in herself and to live with strength and purpose, then I’ve succeeded at what matters most.
