Check Out Jordan (Big Mxxse) Atanasio’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan (Big Mxxse) Atanasio.

Hi Jordan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in phoenix AZ but moved around a lot as a kid and spent time in NY, FL, and TX. My parents were never together during my life so I was raised by a single mother for much of my younger childhood and was sent to live with my pops during my teen years because I was getting into trouble. Luckily the streets didn’t stop me from graduating from sierra Linda high school where I was known for freestyling and battle rapping as well as starting center on the football team.

I only started making music at the beginning of this year. I had always loved music and the AZ music scene but I hadn’t met anyone else in the music scene until I met my producer Bud Woods in December of last year and we started making music together. my first 5 songs E.P. was done within a few weeks and I had my first paid show within a few months.

I’ve done songs with Mike Good who has songs with $uicideboy$ and plenty of other local artists. I frequently go to open mics to scout out other local talent and showcase my skills on stage. My first E.P. was actually just officially released at the beginning of December and I got new songs on the way for 2023. I’m also linked closely to the AZ punk rock scene, performed live with my punk rock band Illegal Activity, and am an associate of and have done work with Commiserate, Gushr, and The Oxymorons who are all prominent local bands. My story has really only just begun and soon the whole world will know the name Big Mxxse.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My parents were never together and I said, I’m a grown man now so it’s fine it didn’t bother me as a kid we were always breaking and I never had much. After getting sent to live with my dad I ended up getting kicked out and have pretty much been homeless ever since.

I only had my own apartment for one year in my adult life and lived in my car, with girlfriends, or with family. I’ve spent many nights sleeping in my car freezing during the winter and hot during the summer. A lot of what I rap and sing about are my own experiences going through it homelessness, loss, betrayal, and with women, while I was living in the streets.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
No job that I have ever had has ever mattered or actually helped me to better myself. Wages have been stagnant for years and it’s part of why I wanted to do music, I can’t stand working basically any job because I hate being told what to do. No job I’ve ever had matters and I could never be proud to work a “job”.

Especially when all I’ve ever worked were bullshit warehouse jobs that never paid a living wage. I’m proud that I take a stand against the rich and defy the normal “work your life away” lifestyle that so many people are trapped in. My music is the only thing I am proud of. And my worth ethic and dedication to it are why so many people want to work with me.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve ever learned is to keep moving forward.

Treat failures as learning experiences and always strive to better yourself. No matter what struggles come my way I know how to keep my head in the right mindset and that only came after going through it emotionally for a long time but the only person who is gonna make me great is me, so losing that drive for greatness to me is a fate worse than death.
