Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Phillips.

Hi Jessica, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
It all started with a move to Sedona in the middle of the pandemic in August 2020. I had been living in the Biltmore area in Phoenix for over 10 years where I dance professionally for Ballet Arizona. Upon retiring in 2018 I began teaching in North Scottsdale for 2 years before the move north.

In Sedona, I had no idea I was going to be so successful opening up this small-town dance school, but after renting a space for 2 months the owners of the studio offered me their lease and I took the studio over and called it Sun Moon Studio of Sedona in January 2020. I run 2 businesses out of this space; 1 Sun Moon rents the space available out to teachers and practitioners looking for a space to teach out of, and 2 Sedona Dance Academy classes (my dance school) are run through this space. Both businesses are thriving today.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Learning the business side of things coming from a professional ballerina background was a huge learning curve. Thankfully I have the discipline and grit to do what it takes to create something professional and beautiful.

I have a lot of support and mentors along the way helping me exorcize the changing of hats, going from businesswoman to teacher, to community leader, building long-term relationships, writing contracts, building websites, etc.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a proud artistic director & owner of a dance school in one of the world’s most beautiful places to live…

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Watching the Nutcracker and knowing one day I would be one of those ballerinas on their toes, captivating the audience.

Pricing:

• 40/hr to rent a studio on a weekly basis
• 50/hr for special event rentals
• 64/month for dance class tuition (student)
