Check Out Ime deCaussin’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ime deCaussin.

Hi Ime, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Starting my business Created By Koko was serendipitous. One day I was scrolling on Pinterest and stumbled upon a photo of polymer clay earrings. I was instantly intrigued and continued learning about polymer clay by reading books and watching tutorials.

I have always loved wearing earrings and using my hands to create art. In June 2020, I combined these two things to start my business adventure selling wearable art. The thought process behind starting my business was to spend more time using my imagination and creativity. Created By Koko keeps me accountable for creating and provides an artistic outlet I enjoy.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Entrepreneurship is simultaneously rewarding and challenging. Learning how to work with polymer clay was initially harder than I thought it would be.

It takes a lot of patience, practice, and persistence to learn how to correctly condition clay to ensure you are creating a high-quality product. Finding the time to manage my business alongside my full-time job in higher education and being a doctoral student is also challenging. Despite the challenges, it makes me happy to share my love for earrings and art with people.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in creating lightweight polymer clay earrings.

The earrings are thoughtfully designed and meticulously handcrafted to create unique statement earrings. I am known for using bold colors, and patterns, and combining mixed metals with polymer clay to create wearable art. I hope people feel vibrant, classy, and confident when they wear Created By Koko earrings.

Who else deserves credit for your story?
My husband, family, friends, and the Louisville community. My parents, siblings, husband, and in-laws were supportive from the moment I told them I wanted to start a business.

Their support and confidence in my ability to succeed were helpful, especially during the first few challenging months of starting a business. Family and friends were the first people to purchase earrings and cheer me on. I am also thankful for the Louisville community. I have had the opportunity to be a vendor at several local markets and sell my earrings at Revelry Boutique + Gallery.
