Today we’d like to introduce you to Harvey Martin
Hi Harvey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I played professional baseball in the Milwaukee Brewers organization until 2015. I was eventually released from having performance anxiety.
After baseball I had different odd jobs while I pursued understanding more about anxiety and our relationship to both the mind and body. Traveling the country and various countries around the world I eventually accumulated a perspective that built my philosophy to teaching. Which is that our physiology directs our psychology. This shift in perspective helped me realize anxiety often stems from our body and the unconscious movements of our physiology. With that said, I learned breathing was the primary controller of both our unconscious and conscious lives. It became the main tool I felt I could teach and share with people.
With My background in sports, I began working with professional athletes around 2017/2018. This was the birth of my entrepreneurial life. By 2020, I was working with professional athletes and teams ranging from Olympians, NHL, NFL and MLB.
In 2021 I began consulting with the San Francisco Giants and teaching Fortune 100 and 500 companies. I decided to go full time with the Giants as their Human Performance Coach from 2022-2024. While doing that I published two books: Breathe, Focus, Excel and Without Words “Mastering the Art of Being”.
This past fall (2024) I went back to being independent and running my own business. Moving to Scottsdale, my cliental is primarily Major League Baseball Players and Coaches, Musicians and Entrepreneurs .
I host a Podcast “A Moment with Mart” and run workshops from Los Angeles, San Diego and the Phoenix area. These workshops expand out to the general public.
My teachings focus on integrating holistic practices for the body in which expand the container of consciousness. As our mind and body express itself with vitality, our unique, creative expression becomes authentically ours.
I do this by providing breath work, meditation, guided saunas, guided cold exposure. Sound bathing and acupressure. I have a background in mental skills and working with human behavior as well.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road, but it has been fun, and challenging. The road has helped me develop as a person. My first business failed when we tried to scale it, and I eventually needed to sell my company shares and move on. I was in debt for many years and had to work many side jobs to stay afloat. Financially, my life started taking a turn in 2020 when I started having clients like the San Francisco Giants. That awarded me more time and resources to publish books. I had to stop my podcast to focus on the business and finances, but I was able to relaunch that this year.
Overall, It took me thirteen years to get to this current position, and I have worked with thousands of people to find my path and where I best serve my clients.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a performance coach for high performers—mostly professional athletes and coaches. I also work with musicians/artists and entrepreneurs.
I specialize in breath work
I’m known for my unique skills in curating space for high-performing people to move closer to their authentic selves while being immersed in a fast-acting and high-stress environment where they are needed to perform.
I’m most proud of my actual work. I’m self-taught in almost everything I do. I’ve personally experimented with everything I teach, and I’m proud of the community I’ve built around holistic practices in the world of high performance.
What sets me apart from others is that I’m self-made. I don’t come from an educational background or was groomed through internships or job paths. I’ve followed my intuition for over a decade and learned from the people I’ve met and worked with. By adapting to the unique backgrounds of individuals and groups of people, I have been able to take my teachings into the sports industry, entertainment industry, and business world. All my programming is created through my own experience.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
