Check Out Gilbert Parra’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gilbert Parra.

Hi Gilbert, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Everything unfolded by my parents’ creativeness and love for art. Graffiti is where it helped me push my capabilities. I got linked up with my crew PFE and FSA, and these individuals help push those limits. A crew member named Louis “York” helped me into getting me my break into the tattoo industry. ‘Til this day, we work together at the same shop and we both have been growing ever since.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all! I still work two jobs. I got a late start into this industry and because I did, I was not able and still not able to give my all to the shop. I got a lot of work that requires me to help people get into their new homes as soon as they can. So, turning apartments and making sure the community of the complex is well organized and appearance is where it’s welcoming, takes majority of my time. Balancing that and giving my fiancé the little time we have to keep our relationship strong. Just trying to keep my job and pay bills so I can help where I’m needed physically and financially, I have always worked 2 or more jobs, living paycheck to paycheck has been my young years, like everyone else but failing and not having enough made me work harder. Just recently I decided to put more time into the shop.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a maintenance technician and soon will convert full-time to tattooing. I specialize in realism and letters. Due to my graffiti background, letters in tattooing came easy. Just trying to translate it to skin, is a whole new experience. I’m most proud of not giving up and having friends/family by my side boosting me up to do this tattooing thing.

Details. Most look for a fast and easy finish. I find detail to be more captivating to the viewers. So, it takes me as long as it takes, no matter the task. My goal is to make my audience, and clients the most happiest.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
I’m not much of a reader. Podcasts I love is Joe Rogan, Dave Ramsey, and The Porter Way podcast. I will say as far as apps go, procreate is the shit! Helps a lot for tattooing.
