Check Out Evo Howard’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Evo Howard.

Hi Evo, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi, my name is Evo Howard. I was born in Arizona, and I’m 26 years old. I grew up with an older sister and just my mom. My dad lived in California. We did not have the most straightforward upbringing, but my mother did a good job easing it, and I was always a happy child. My stepdad moved in with us when I was very young. He had a substance abuse problem, so we saw many crazy things—Especially for a kid.

Ever since I was younger, I noticed how stressed out my mother was about money. I knew I wanted to make a decent living, never to have to worry about money. I was constantly hearing about how stressful her job was. Since I was a kid, I have wanted to own my own business. Always I was not too fond of the idea of working for someone else, and so as I began my adult life, I got my first job working at McDonald’s at the age of 17. I liked my career there, the pay was low, but it allowed me to use my skill of talking to people! That was my favorite part!

Then I attended community college at Central Arizona College. After a semester and a half, I dropped out! I knew college was not for me! Then I started my second job, where I stayed for three years working at Walgreens. This is where I met my partner Samantha! Her parents had kicked her out of her house for dating me. They did it like the fact that I was bisexual. Since she got kicked out, my mom, of course, let her stay with us. As I worked as a photo tech, It was great to talk to people and print photos. Then in a turn of events and under pressure from my mother, I went back to school while working full time! So I instead when to Chandler-Gilbert community college.

I then completed a Certification in digital photography. At the same time as this, I finally got a new job working at Arron’s. This was my first soirée into sales! I did that job for about a year and a half while running my photography business on the side. After leaving Arron’s, I went to conns home plus a retail sales store! I had transferred over to ASU poly tech campus and completed an associate of science and a bachelor’s in business at the University of Phoenix! All while working at conns full time.

Then I threw all my time not at school into my career at conns. I love all aspects of selling and helping customers, talking to them, and finding out their needs. I stayed there for four years. I went from sales associate to store manager in 4 years. I was proud of my accomplishments! But I had not seen the fruits of my labor. So after four long years and making around 57 thousand a year guaranteed salary! I quit in April of 2021. This was a scary prospect, and Sam and I had built a life. We made good money over 115k together, bills a house we owned, cars, pets.

It was a scary idea to potentially through away half of all that. But Sam pushed and urged me to focus my efforts full force on real estate! She and I knew that the skills I had acquired over the years would serve me well. In June of 2021, I finished my license and began pushing as hard as possible to make sure we could pay our bills the next month. Within 21 days, I sold my first house! After the first month, the second month, I did not sell anything, and I went into a deep depression, fearing we may not be able to pay our bills! Even considering going back to another corporate job.

Sam’s ongoing medical problems had been ongoing! With her taking so much time to get to the doctor and do tests, we barely had enough to pay our bills. Then I worked as hard as I could doing open houses talking to everyone. I could tell them I was an agent and help them buy a home! Then I got another deal, then another! The joy of seeing my efforts pay off gave me the vigor to continue! At the end of 2021, I had three more deals under contract waiting to close. In January, I closed another sale and another to the point where I had eight sales under my belt in a matter of seven months!

Since closing four deals in January of 2022, I have three more contracts for February of 2022, and I’m on track to keep that up! With my renewed confidence in my abilities, I am excited to see what Sam and s future holds. And hope that more people will know my name and be a part of one of the most important purchases in their lives. I’m great full to all my clients, and I’m excited and hopeful to meet my new ones.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It is hard to say whether my life was hard or smooth. Everyone has their challenges. Especially in these current times we have had and continue to have. I think others have faced far more challenges than I have.

Still, when I look back on my life so far, I like to think that even with whatever I have had to face, I was able to overcome it or find some way to make it through.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a local real estate agent in Arizona. I work all over the valley and help clients find the homes of their dreams. I hope that if you ask people who know me, they would say that I’m hard-working but fun to be around and make people happy.

What sets me apart is that I’m an honest person. I do the best I can for my clients and family. It’s hard to say what sets you apart nowadays because everyone has that “special thing” that sets them apart. I know what has made me successful in my life is authentic. I can’t be anything else.

I don’t act like everything’s going well when it’s not, and I make people feel like I have known them for years. I don’t BS people, and I’m always available.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
If you can’t already tell, I’m not a fan of the fancy corporate words. Networking sounds like something special you have to do to meet people in a certain way or a secret way. But really, it’s just meeting people. How do you meet people, you ask; well, you talk. That’s where it begins.

As they about themselves, tell them your story, make an effort to make a real connection. Finding a mentor is as easy as just talking to people. Everyone has information or skills that you don’t. The fantastic thing about being human is communicating and expressing our ideas and vision of the world we want to be a part of.

Everyone has their unique perspective. Learn from everyone all the time, and you will always be better for it.
