Today we’d like to introduce you to Ericka Herd.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I’ve always been into health and fitness since I was a little girl. I’ve enjoyed pushing my body past normal limits. My athletic journey started when I earned Presidential Fitness Award in elementary, outrunning my peers, the boys, and girls. Later, I joined the basketball, cheer, tack, and field teams in middle and high school. My athleticism earned me a scholarship toward D1 college at Eastern Kentucky University. Soon after graduating, I started teaching as a public educator and coaching high school track and field. Through those experiences, I began to understand the body and how it responds to pressure from weightlifting. I signed up for my first bodybuilding, and I’ve been hooked ever since. The meta-Morphis of my figure caused many to question what I was doing or how can they get in shape. The number of questions and interest from others led me to start training others.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Of course, it’s been challenging balancing professions, raising my seven-year-old, training for competitions, and training others. However, my tenacity to improve and achieve goals keeps me pressing forward.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have been a schoolteacher for the last 24 years. Outside of teaching, I have a modeling career in fitness and fashion. I’ve been a public school teacher. I teach English, but I’ve also taught Spanish. I’ve coached track, volleyball, basketball, and football along the way. My most proud moment has been teaching my students, athletes, and clients how to win from within.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risks are unavoidable. And if you’re going to be an entrepreneur, or anyone successful, sometimes you must leap. My risk is typically embedded in my faith. You’ll eventually land on your feet when you know who sits high.
