Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Rossiter.
Hi Danielle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I grew up in New York City’s fine jewelry scene, where my grandfather started a jewelry business in 1955. As the third generation in the business, I had a childhood steeped in the jewelry world. Saturdays were spent exploring the jewelry exchange, assisting my family in the day-to-day operations, selling behind the counter, and watching jewelers create works of art. These experiences became integral to my formative years and helped lay the foundation for my future.
My love for jewelry remained present throughout my college years at the University of Florida, where I worked at a jewelry store (amongst other places!) before graduating and pursuing a career in medical sales. It was my spiritual awakening years later that ultimately wove a path back to the industry that is truly a part of my core. While going through a period of my life that was extremely challenging, I was searching for meaning; to understand myself and others around me. It was after having my birth chart read for the first time that I truly felt seen. Finding layer after layer of self-discovery and healing through this process, I eventually learned how to read birth charts for others and began looking for a piece of jewelry to commemorate my own connection to the cosmos and to my soul. I was looking for something specific — a piece that was luxurious, bespoke, and meaningful. Not finding what I was looking for became my drive to create it, and Midsummer Fine was born.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a process of slow growth and a lot of learning. Just because my family was a part of the industry doesn’t mean that I got a fast start. Design and creative vision is what lights me up and is the most fulfilling part of Midsummer Fine. The actual promotion of the business has definitely been – and continues to be – more challenging since I still have a full-time corporate position. Like a true Virgo, I am more comfortable in the background, obsessing over every detail. Social media is a huge marketing tool for jewelry brands, and it has been hard for me to put myself and Midsummer out there. Like many artists and designers, I suffer from a bit of imposter syndrome. I just keep reminding myself that just like in life, not everyone is going to like you. You just have to find the ones that do.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Midsummer Fine is a fine jewelry brand that celebrates our connection to the cosmos by creating bespoke astrological chart, constellation, and spiritually connected jewelry. All pieces are meticulously made to order in Los Angeles using 14k or 18k gold and ethically sourced diamonds and gemstones. My pieces are connectors, conversation starters, and above all, treasured tokens meant to be passed down for generations to come. Midsummer is known for astrological chart jewelry – a visual rendering of the planets in the sky at the time of a special event. It’s a snapshot of the universe’s energy at that precise moment. Each chart is unique, it will never to be repeated in time, existence, or our reality. My biggest joy is creating pieces that are cherished, but reached for often. Designing one of a kind pieces is also something that I love doing. It is an honor to work closely with a client to create a piece that reflects themselves or their loved one.
