Check Out Dan Clanton’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Clanton.

Hi Dan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
March 3, 2017 was the creation of “A Band With No Name” in the 55+ community of CantaMia in the master planned community of Estrella Mountain Ranch in Goodyear, AZ by Gene Myers. Gene was the CoFounder and Manager of the band when he recruited me, Dan Clanton, in September of 2018, and I became the lead singer. We were primarily playing in our community, but as we got better at performing, and tighter as a group we decided to branch out of our community.

Some of the members didn’t want to travel outside of our community to play, and we had to replace a few of the members. Then, the Pandemic hit.

Once we were able to play again, we started to expand. We brought on Tom Sherer as our lead guitarist, and some of the band started to fall behind, and weren’t able to keep up with our progress. So, more band members had to be let go. At this point, Gene Myers was the only original member left.

At a recent band meeting this year, our Manager Gene had mentioned that each time we had to let someone go the band got better and better. It was then we told Gene it was his turn to be let go, and we recruited a new Manager, Lynette Keating.

Now the band roster is as follows:
Dan Clanton, Lead Vocals/Percussion
Tom Sherer, Lead Guitarist/Vocals
Bobby Morgan, Rhythm Guitarist/Vocals
Paula Horst, Bass Guitar
Keith Olson, Drums

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As I stated in the previous question, we’ve had to replace some members during our growth to keep up with our vision of where we want our band to go.

The hardest part about this is I’m the youngest of the group at the age of 65! Our oldest member is 72. We’re not sure how much longer we’ll be able to keep playing, but we all love what we do, and have a passion for this group.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Each of us has come from different backgrounds and careers, but we all love music and love to perform. For example, Dan Clanton came from a Law Enforcement career, but performed in Musical Theatre for 35 yrs. Tom Sherer worked for a high school doing IT work, and running sound for the school, all the while performing in various bands. Bobby Morgan is an Accountant, but also performed as a Bass and Rhythm Guitarist. Paul Horst was gigging most of his life in various bands, and now works part-time at a Mortuary. Keith Olson is a retired Music Teacher, a nd played in Swing Bands before joining The No Namers Band. I think our varying careers, but our love of our craft sets us apart from other bands.
