Today we’d like to introduce you to Clarisse Ringwald.
Hi Clarisse, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was humiliated over something I wore and once the choking back of tears stopped, I decided I would seek out professional help. This coincided with my going back to work full time to help pay for my daughter’s medical bills. In preparing for job interviews, I was advised to go for a color analysis. I was preparing to purchase work clothing so I felt it was a great idea. I knew nothing about style, color, fit and up to that time I purchased trendy clothing that seemed to be the “rage”. After the clothing shaming, I realized that maybe those trendy clothes were not for me.
I went for my color analysis appointment, received a personal palette of colors to wear, types of clothing that would fit my body shape and new makeup to align with my new colors. Since law paid the most money, I set my sights on working in a law firm. I landed a secretarial position. After a few years, I was chosen to become a paralegal at Fennemore Craig. I had a very successful paralegal career for 31 years. When I retired from Lewis & Roca in 2012, I wanted to pursue my love of color, fit and style.
Between 2013-2016, I trained with several image consultants in advanced color analysis and I am certified and licensed in that modality. Additionally, I received basic training in Fashion Feng Shui as a Facilitator and went on to gain certification and licensure as a Fashion Feng Shui Master Facilitator. As the style industry changes, I have again modernized my styling business to include virtual color analysis and styling. As a Personal Image and Color Consultant, I have created Essential Colors/Essential Styling which not only includes color analysis and image consulting, but now includes Fashion Fit Formula for a comprehensive report for the fit of clothing and Hue n Stripe for creation of personalized virtual closets so my clients can click and shop from the convenience of any electronic device.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I love what I do so the struggles along the way have been easier to handle now than in my past. In 2017, I aligned myself in three questionable business collaborations that were costly in time and money. Also that year, I went through a divorce and moved my personal space three times as well as my business space three times. As we know, 2020 brought COVID-19 and I gave up my business space and moved everything to my home. The year was not too bad and I offered many specials throughout to keep the clients coming to see me.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In Fashion Feng Shui terms, my personal energies reveal that I am a Metal/Water, creatively elegant. That is the way I show up both physically and emotionally. I pride myself in giving my clients all the instruction and tools they need to have a wardrobe with every piece aligned to who they are, their lifestyle and who they want to influence. I am known for color analysis, I prefer that clients come to me so I can see their exact skin tone. There are not many who do color analysis with color drapes and range finders. I present a personalized fabric color palette to each color analysis client that eliminates any mistakes in shopping for clothing and accessories. It also saves time when they know the exact colors to purchase in their clothing.
I am most proud of being the “go-to” image consultant and personal color consultant in the Valley. What sets me apart from others is my training and experience. The difference between an image consultant and a stylist or personal shopper is that I give advanced instruction on body shape, fit of clothing, hair, skin and eye evaluation and key size (exactly how large your prints should be in your clothing). I also provide eye wear examples aligned with the client’s face shape. I also provide which colors will be best for eyewear. It’s a comprehensive styling package.
What were you like growing up?
In Myers-Briggs, I am an INTJ – Introvert, intuitive, thinker, judger. I am a high functioning Introvert, mainly because I have to be in business. I am not shy but prefer quiet alone time to recharge. I spent hours by myself as a child, my sibling being 13 years older. What I loved to do was color. When I started experimenting with makeup, I would lock myself in the power room and try on makeup for hours. I would take it off and reapply it.
Woolworth’s Makeup Counter was my favorite. I am blessed because I can see skin tone across the room, a skill I developed as a young girl. My interests are a keen thirst for knowledge and research on anything color and style.
