Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Debrosky.
Hi Christine, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Color and light has always made me stop and take pause. I became a full time artist about 30 years ago, wanting to share the way that sunlight dances across the landscape, or even splashes and lights up the indoors. I grew up in NY State’s Hudson Valley, and visiting the world class museums and galleries were an unmatched education.
When I relocated to Arizona about 12 years ago, I was able to continue my journey as an artist. So many fair days means I can paint outdoors year round . When indoors, , I bring what I have learned to my paintings, in my beautiful dream studio outside of Sedona.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Making the leap to a full time career in fine art is always a a challenge. There are no guarantees for success in this realm. With the support of family, friends, and a loyal following, I have been able to sustain my endeavors.
In this sometimes lonely profession, I need to keep myself positive and motivated. The work does not always go well, and there have been setbacks and disappointments, as well as triumphs along the way. At this point, I realize that things progress in cycles, and there will be highs along with the lows.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I share the sense of wonder in our surroundings. My work is landscape, in pastel and oil, in an impressionist style. People have often remarked, “ You capture the light so well! “
Whether it is a dappled pathway, soft early morning, the drama of rich sunset colors, or sparkling lights at night, natural light gets me itching to capture the many moods. I am most proud of conveying the joy to the viewer. One of the best compliments that I have gotten about one of my paintings was… “You painted just weeds! But in that light, they glow and you made them look so beautiful! “
What matters most to you? Why?
Being able to share my delight and joy in the moments that are simply beautiful. I mean that in a very true sense of the word simple. Sometimes I will be with a loved one, and I can point out some small thing that is visually appealing, other times it is through many hours spent on a painting. I feel so blessed every day to have the gift of seeing the wonder that is in our world.
