Today we’d like to introduce you to Cherish Ann Martinez-Bellocq.
Hi Cherish Ann, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m originally from the Philippines and a nurse by profession. I lived and worked in Kuwait for 9 years and moved to the US in the summer of 2021. I am proud of all the hard work I put into becoming a nurse, but what excites me is my freedom when I finally give myself that chance to do photography. It’s not easy, to be honest, as I love my nursing career, and it’s something I am very thankful for because it gave me the chance to take care of people, especially my dad, on his last days on earth. The challenges I have faced while making my way through photography are tough because I’m adapting to American living. However, having my husband and family support me made it easy for me to overcome the hurdles. I have learned this lesson repeatedly, but it is still the most profound one: “Change is the only constant thing in this world.” We must adapt and believe in our capabilities to live our best lives. I want the world to know that Filipinas like me can dream big and inspire others and that following their passion is never too late.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It could be smoother, rather bumpy. As a starting photographer, one of the struggles I have to face is fear and self-doubt. The uncertainty of whether people will book a session or not is nerve-racking. I always believe that struggles shape us and make us who we are.
I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an RN and will always be proud; today, I’m a full-time photographer, and my main niche is Lifestyle Commercial Branding. I know every photographer develops their style through years of experience. Now, I apply a light, bright, and dramatic vibe to my work. I am proud of the fact that aside from being a nurse, I am a photographer. My resilience sets me apart from others.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Following your passion and embracing uncertainty can lead you to the life you always wanted. It’s still possible to work on something you feel deep in your heart that is meant for you.
