Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Fenigstein.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in New York in an alcoholic and abusive household that, from the outside, appeared to be a typical middle-class family. The only way I could connect with my father was through sports, which led me to excel as an athlete. Looking back, I consider exercise to have been my first addiction, as it became my primary outlet and coping mechanism. Throughout high school and college, athletics remained central to my life, but during my college years in Kentucky, I shifted toward exploring new identities and experiences. I immersed myself in the counterculture, studied philosophy and religion—particularly Eastern traditions—and eventually earned my master’s degree.
My career path led me naturally into counseling and therapy. My first position in Kentucky was as a drug and alcohol counselor, a role that helped me both serve others and gain deeper insight into my own struggles. Alongside my professional journey, I remained committed to music and martial arts, practices I have continued for nearly 50 years. Over the past four decades, I built a successful career as a therapist and eventually moved into leadership roles, serving as CEO, director, and manager in various human service organizations.
Despite these professional successes, my personal challenges with drugs and alcohol continued—though far less than in my earlier years. Over 20 years ago, while serving as the director of a drug and alcohol program, I received a DUI. That moment was a turning point in my life and became the wake-up call I needed. Since then, I have committed to living in alignment with the principles I had long been teaching others, deepening my discipline in recovery, and cultivating my spiritual path. This journey of self-discovery and transformation continues to shape both my personal life and my professional mission to help others heal.
At this point, my services offer a personalized, holistic approach to emotional well-being, blending mindfulness, neuroscience, and resilience-building techniques. As a meditation, mindfulness, yoga, Tai Chi and Martial Artist teacher, I provide practical, actionable tools to help clients integrate mindfulness into daily life, manage stress, and cultivate deep emotional awareness. With compassionate, judgment-free support, I empower individuals with self-sustaining skills for long-term transformation, helping them achieve inner balance, clarity, and success in both personal and professional life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The greatest struggles on my path were not only overcoming substance use, but also engaging in the deeper work of discovering who I truly am and why I am here. Substance abuse was a significant obstacle, and addressing it allowed me to look beyond the surface and begin exploring the underlying causes—unresolved trauma and painful past experiences. Through my own journey of treatment, therapy, and recovery, I gained greater self-awareness and healing, which has profoundly shaped the way I live and the work I do today. These challenges became the foundation for my commitment to guiding others on their own paths of recovery, growth, and self-discovery.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What I am most proud of in my work and with my brand is that, through my own spiritual, emotional, and mental journey, I have learned that I do not need to change who I am in order to live authentically. This realization allows me to teach from direct experience rather than theory, creating a foundation of honesty and integrity in what I share. The connections I build with others are genuine and rooted in authenticity, which makes me more effective in guiding people toward discovering and embracing their true selves.
