Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridget Pettis.

Hi Bridget, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
2020 After Over two decades i. Professional Basketball as a player and then Coach. I stared farming to grow food and bring awareness to my community the importance of not only growing food but also eating it as well. For the past five Years I have been running my farm out of South Phoenix. Teaching youth and community how to grow their own food. Holding space for a community Garden that hold over twelve community gardeners.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The obstacles have been the lack of production at times with hard summer heat . Creating shading and building a sustainable environment financially in the farmers market and the store front

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a former WNBA Player who is now a farmer . It is a true labor of love and not only am I growing food but also community along with it.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I work in a space that hold many local farmers and most of them are my inspiration. . My Mother also is a gardener and she inspires me every year with her own garden. Mainly it’s the children that come out to the farm. I love when they plant seeds and harvest some of the food. They are the future and knowing where your food comes from truly matters especially today
