Check Out Anthony Tartarilla’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Tartarilla.

Hi Anthony, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I’m Anthony. My photography journey started last spring while watching the sunset on a desert hike. I’m originally from New Jersey and moved to Arizona about a year and a half ago. One of the things that brought me to Arizona was the natural beauty and landscape that it had to offer. I felt that photography was the perfect way to capture that beauty and spread it to my friends and family back on the East Coast. Thus, @captured.by.at was born.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The struggles I had came from my lack of knowledge of photography. I always assumed it was as easy as pointing a camera and clicking a button. I soon learned of all the different settings and techniques that one must learn in order to get the quality images I desired. I’m still learning to this day, but I’m very proud of the progress I’ve made. 

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I currently specialize in landscape photography. I love hiking and being outdoors, so nature has been my muse. I’m starting to branch out into urban photography and would love to start doing portraits. I do, however, plan on always using the natural world as inspiration for the majority of my work. I’m most proud of being able to show people how beautiful Arizona is and inspiring people to spend time in nature. I think that growing up in a place very different than here has given me an appreciation of the landscape that others may not posses. 

We’d love to hear about what you think about risk-taking.
I think that risk-taking is important as long as the proper measures are taken. In my field, it’s necessary to take some risks. I’ve climbed up high rocks, hiked off trail, and camped overnight just to get the right shot. In all of these scenarios, I made sure that I was taking the proper safety measures to minimize the risks as much as possible.
