Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Tortajada.
Nick, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
The concept of creation has always been an important part of my life. I wrote short books or screenplays when I was young, tried my hand at drawing, played any instrument I could get my hands on, and even theatre. All of these outlets were a ton of fun and I learned a lot from them, but they all eventually ran their course. What I didn’t realize until much later was that I always had a camera in hand to document the journey. It wasn’t until a few years ago when I realized that the camera was how I had truly been creating my whole life. Since that embrace, I have enjoyed collaborating with inspiring creatives from every walk of life from around the world. My journey has always been about learning and sharing, and my camera is the voice that tells my story.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Being a commercial photographer, my work can take the shape of many different forms. I have a love affair with architecture and am always amazed by how a space may photograph or the difference in perspective another artist takes when approaching the same space. However, my heart is rooted in adventure and the outdoors. I try to share the experience in a way that makes the viewer feel like they are there or can imagine what it may feel like to be there. I hope that my work helps to inspire people to get out there and do it!
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
Success is based upon different metrics for each individual. For me, it is truly found in those moments when, through your creation, the eyes of another light up – whether that’s a client seeing their project or product take on a new life through your photos, a model that gains confidence from the experience. a stranger that decides to adventure based on your work. I think the healthiest characteristic for an artist to feel success is to be truthful in their own definition of success and the reason for why they are doing what they do.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My main outlets are my Instagram accounts: @nick.tort is where I showcase my outdoor work / colabs with brands and @nicktortphoto chronicles my work portfolio as a traveling commercial photographer. I thrive off of being challenged and working with creatives to push myself, so the kind of support I seek is to invite anyone that wishes to work with me, simply to reach out!
