Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Miller.
Nicholas, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Well, I first wanted to shoot videos of cars to put up on YouTube. I found out about a small car meet that would happen every Wednesday night so I would ride the city bus down to the car meet to start filming. I started off wanting to produce cinematic videos of automobiles and it soon grew into me doing mostly photography of cars. I’ve been doing this since junior year in high school and haven’t stopped. My brand name is Kleen Productions. I have naturally built my 2.3k follower count on IG and have 290 subscribers on YouTube. I also professionally breakdance on rollerskates and am part of a group I call family, The IX. Also, since high school, I’ve put a lot of time and effort into learning the art of jam skating. I have an amazing amount of passion for it. I’m fully self-taught and now I’m beginning to teach others. I help teach jamskating to the youth every Tuesday night. I go every Sunday night to Great Skate in Glendale AZ to skate with some of the best rollerskating talent there is in AZ. Not just The IX but I also skate for The Hospitality Skate. We are a collection of skaters all around the nation who just love to skate and want to pass it down to the younger generations and to those who haven’t been exposed to it. It’s our job to keep our art form alive. I’ve always been told I have a very creative mind and a one of a kind soul. I carry that with me every day and live every minute I have to the fullest!
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a self-grown Automotive Cinematographer & photographer. I started with nothing but a phone and a tripod and a dream. I do it as a hobby and also as a source of income. I enjoy doing it and I have a serious skill for finding creative angles. I take pictures/videos of cars/trucks for those who have spent countless amounts of their time and money on their machines that help them Express themselves to give them something to share with their friends and family. I have inspired many of my close friends to either start photography or push themselves harder to perfect their craft even more. I hope that one day, I would have inspired thousands or even millions to pick up a camera and share with the world how they see it through their eyes.
As for jamskating, what I do is a mix of Contemporary, Hip-hop, Bboying, and a little animation. I’ve been skating for about eight years. What brought me to try jamskating was when I saw others doing it for the first time. I saw a couple of people doing what I’m doing now, eight years ago and I just was in awe and found it very interesting how you could do something so unique on rollerskates like that and from there it stuck. I’ve skated for one small time clothing company as a sponsored skater so far. HRS&CO was a clothing company within the skating community that I was representing for over a period of about 2 or 3 years. I skate every Sunday night at Great Skate in Glendale AZ and I teach jamskating classes every Tuesday night at the Desert Dolls Roller Derby facility in Phx. I skate because it’s a big stress relief and it also keeps me in shape. When I was younger and first starting it kept me off the streets and away from TV screens too. I like to help others learn to skate because if I’m not teaching them or if no one else is, who will? Jamskating is a very uncommon art that is one of the most unique forms of art and expression in my opinion. I hope that whoever reads this will be motivated to go to their local rink and lace up and let the music move you! Jamskating is a dying art and unfortunately, a lot of family/ community oriented rinks are closing all over the nation because of lack of funds to keep them open or they are no longer being offered to renew their leases. I encourage you to go support your local rinks to help keep the wheels and the good times rollin!
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
I think success if finding the amount of support you hope for and being content. It’s never been about money for me but for some, it may be. I think happiness is a very good indication of success. I believe one should be very open-minded and willing to share his or her ideas with others if they encounter potential. Supplying your fellow artists with emotional support Is very important. Boost each other up as much as possible. You also have to be willing to adapt and try new ways of performing/creating your art. My final suggestion is just be you. Originality is so important and will eventually give big results if you perfect your work. Be kind to your fellow artists.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
