Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Brutus.
Michael, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
When I was 15 years old I posted a cover of myself singing on Instagram and from there I got verification that I was an amazing singer. Leading into my senior year of high school, everyone knew I could sing very well. Walking around campus I would regularly get stopped by other students, (mostly the lower class-men) and asked to sing for them. I had a choose at this point, to either say no or to sing for them. I took the risk and sang for every person who asked me too and this built my confidence up a lot. My first live performance was in high school as well. I sang the National Anthem in front of the entire school for the Spring Assembly. As nerve wracking ass this was I was able to accomplish it and mark one thing off of my bucket list as an artist. That is how my artistry began.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My art is mostly made up of music and fashion. I am a singer/songwriter, aspiring creative director, and fashion model/stylist. I like to direct and produce photo shoots and music videos. Being able to create content brings me peace as an artist and it just helps me stay creative. I have to create to be mentally satisfied and happy with myself. My message as an artist is to always strive to be the best version of yourself and never stop doing what you love. Take positive risks that will help you grow in your artistry/passion. My inspiration is growing up being the unicorn of the room everywhere that I went. I’m a natural born black ginger and this unique feature was not always pleasing to me. I used to deal with a lot of color-ism, self-image, and self-love issues. I still deal with this till this day at times but I’m mostly proud to be who I am today and lucky to be able to stand out. I want people to love the characteristics and features that make them stand out because I believe that it is our superpowers.
How can artists connect with other artists?
I would advise you as an artist to attend your local art events and network with other artists and to use social media as well to find other artists that interest you and connect.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
You can see my work on Instagram @ikilledcaesar and music on Spotify and Soundcloud under Brutus, iTunes and Apple Music under Michael Brutus. You can support my music by streaming it on all the platforms named above and buying it on iTunes. Also, by following me on Instagram.
