Check out Luisa Leon’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luisa Leon.

Luisa, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I started creating sketches when I was about 5 or 6 years old. I used to grab the newspaper with hopes I would find the grid drawing section. Growing up I had many toys, but my favorite one was colored pencils. I would sit there and play with them as if they were dolls. Crazy, I know! I remember looking at them closing and seeing how colors would look like together if you paired them. This was like my own self-made 5 yr. old color wheel. Since then, my art has had ups and downs. I’ve never had an education in art, so I experiment with new techniques and tools every chance I get. Here I am now, challenging myself to create something every day!

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’d say my art is a little improvised. I make multiple mistakes through my process but I like the challenge of making them work. As in life, we can’t expect perfection but instead learn, grow, and work with what we have. My art comes from a place of happiness and joy. It’s colorful, detailed in the focal points, and loose brush strokes in the background and surrounding areas. I like to work on pieces that make others feel free, empowered, romantic, and even make someone remember a little something about their past. I’m still moving around in my subjects, but extremely passionate and inspired by my Mexican culture, female empowerment, and colors.

The sterotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Art is not about the financial aspects. Art comes from the heart and if you believe in your own art others will. Live life with a passion, and everything else will come. It’s not an easy road, but it is definitely a rewarding goal. Keep doing what you do without losing yourself. I believe people like authenticity and if this is something you’re passionate about, life will provide.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I have my social media pages as azlotusart (Instagram & Facebook) and I also have my website.

In person, I have a few shows coming up. Pancakes and booze in September, chocolate and art in October, and…. my solo show in November! Stay tuned for that.

In the meantime, I offer other art services like commissioned art, face paint, body/maternity art, mobile paint parties, and henna. 🙂
