Check out Lonnie Coleman’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lonnie Coleman.

Lonnie, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’m an artist from Los Angeles. I’m also an Army veteran that discovered my love for painting in the process of finding ways to deal with my PTSD. I’m self-taught, and I feel that my love for canvases and acrylic paint grows every time I paint. Art to me has become an obsession. I love painting.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My style is abstract. I love using bright colors. There’s something about bright colors on a canvas that just makes me smile. I’ve been painting for about two years, and I’m still trying out different methods. Using different kinds of tools like rollers, or sponges, spackle tools, etc. My favorite thing to use is this little device I created. Basically, it’s a fan with a steering wheel attached to it, and it spins canvases really fast and creates cool paintings. I want people to look at my art and know that what I painted got me through a hard day or a moment of high anxiety. I want people to feel happy when they see it. My artwork is therapy for me.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
I’d say having a good following on social media, doing shows, and having people buying or checking for your work would be pretty successful. Being able to be an artist full time and supporting yourself from your artwork as well. Being able to speak about your work I feel is essential in the success of an artist. Being transparent and open to criticism of your work is another. Also being humble. I feel like that’s a huge one for me.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
People can see my work by checking out my Instagram @LColemanart. I post a lot of content on there. Hopefully, I’ll be in more shows here as well.

    Hello Mr. Coleman,

Have you ever been to Houston and painted a portrait of 2 girls. I met you at a flee market and brought a picture of my 2 daughters and you painted them. You did such an awesome job. I need another portrait painted of my sister. I will leave my information below.
