Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Aguilar.

Hi Lindsey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I first started making candles as a way to express myself in a creative way. As a full time registered nurse and mama, I needed something that would satisfy my desire to make things, and candle making was something I tried out and ended up loving! I love fresh, simple designs and wanted to make custom fragrances for my own home that were clean, safe and seamlessly enhanced any decor. After I had perfected my technique and started gifting my creations to family and friends, I began to get so many requests for my candles, that I began to sell them to coworkers, family and friends. It was at this time that I decided to open an Etsy shop and started participating in some local markets.

After a lot of prayer, my husband and I decided that Local Light Candle Co. was the perfect name for my small business, as it embodies the local, handmade spirit. Recently, I have transitioned onto my own website and am working on growing my business and hope to offer my candles and other products in local shops around the valley. I am inspired by all things bright and airy and strive to create scents that invoke memories of home, comfort and joy. One of my favorite collections is my “Dreaming of Disney” collection, which features three fragrances that are inspired by the nostalgic scents of Disneyland. These candles have cute Disney inspired artwork on the labels that are also hand drawn by myself! I seasonally rotate out scents based on the time of the year and this is one of the funnest parts of my job! Creating new scents, testing them until they are perfect and then coming up with names for them is always so much fun.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
While I find joy in doing something I love as my “side” job, it is sometimes very hard to balance being a mom, wife and also work a full time job in the hospital. While it was such a blessing, around the holidays, I got so busy it was often hard to keep up! I am continually growing as I learn how to run a small business. Currently, I run all aspects of my business including creating and making all the products, designing and running my website/online shop, photography, social media, shipping and packing. It has been tough during times of growth, but I couldn’t ask for anything more! Also, my husband, sister and mom help me enormously with product ideas, setting up and running markets and picking up raw materials for me.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have been a registered nurse for ten years and it is my first love and passion. Caring for others has always been my calling, but when I started my company, I found something else that could bring light into others’ lives in a different way.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love how Arizona has so much in nature to explore. I feel like there is something for everyone! I especially love the unique beauty of the Sonoran desert and love this time of year! Spring in the desert is so gorgeous with all the color exploding around us. I am truly inspired by the natural beauty of the desert and also chose to incorporate my home state of Arizona in my branding. I also appreciate the huge growth that has occurred over the last couple of years in the local handmade community within the state. All the markets, shops and events dedicated to small and handmade businesses is amazing to see, and I love the support that Arizonans have for local small business.
