Check out Laura Page’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Page.

Laura, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I have always been pretty crafty. I started originally crocheting hats and different items, but after a severe battle with carpal tunnel, I had to stop. Realizing that not creating made me unhappy I had to find a different craft. My kids got into skateboarding at that time, and I had some sparely used decks in my garage. I have seen things made from Skateboards before so I decided I would give it a shot. I had no tools and absolutely no knowledge on how to use tools. I borrowed my dad’s 30-year-old jigsaw to cut out a piece for the first bracelet I ever made. Something sparked inside me and made me realize this is something I need to do. My husband bought me several different power tools for my Birthday to get me started which I had to YouTube how to use. After a lot of trial and error as well as some help from the awesome woodworking community group I belong to I was off!

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I make jewelry, household items, and wall art out of Recycled Skateboard decks. I collect used decks from friends and pretty much wherever I can get them. I love all the graphics and colors that skateboards have and how the colors blend from the boards being used and imagine how many curbs and rails created all of the markings. It is an amazing feeling when people see my artwork and say how beautiful it is and once they find out it is made from recycled Skateboard they are blown away how something that would normally be thrown away can be used to make something beautiful. I make items I love. I get images in my head of something I want to make, and I love seeing it come to life. I hope what I make inspires people to think outside the box.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I am at various events such as Gilbert Art Walk, Made with Love Market in Gilbert, Embrace Market and Idysea Artisan Market between October and April. I am looking to add more next year. I also sell my items in my Etsy shop.
