Check out Lance Lockhart’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lance Lockhart.

Lance, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I have been a commercial pilot for years. The treasures found in old barns, and discarded parts bins have always been a treasure beyond reach for the average aviation enthusiast. As an airline Captain now for Southwest Airlines, that wonder has always been there. Now with my art reclaiming aircraft materials from actual aircraft that I have flown I am making available to everyone to own a piece of aviation history. I started in 2013 with aviation photographs, often aircraft I have spotted from my career and travels. The wanderlust grew from an inspiration to forging a unique niche of repurposing aviation materials into luggage tags, key chains, and home decor priced from everyone.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am one of a handful of artists in the world that work with reclaimed materials from aircraft. Not only have I flown the airplane I have made art out of it. This small idea now has found homes into thousands of customers. Owning a piece of history like a championship court as a souvenir for aviation enthusiasts and travel junkies. The uniqueness and history capture people’s personal connection and elevate my art with their own connections to travel and flight. I source materials all over the country and work locally in phoenix either in my shop or through my partner fabrication shops to create one of a kind piece.

Often, I am the only artist in the world creating art in my category. When people hold a piece of aviation history in their hands, they take ownership of what they love and can carry that with them with enthusiasm and pride. Often my customers out pace my own passion for what I do and carry the torch by word of mouth. My art comes from faith, and abundance. It would be easy to treat this as a scarce product and price it higher making it a low volume and high margin product. I love that I can price it within the reach of everyone. I continue to be inspired to create new products that touch the collective spirits of my customers.

Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
For me, I am tied into the culture of where I work at Southwest Airlines. As an airline captain I try to use my voice for leadership and positivity encouraging people. Combining that with an artist, I have created a collective product that I feel many thousands also call their own and take pride in it as well as I do. It is encouraging for me to be externally focused. I have quietly supported families and individuals with art pieces as gifts. Small or large contributions set the focus on the people in need of love. I can often interview a person and create something specifically speaking to their heart. When art is shared in a community where love is present, it amplifies and sets a small light where there is darkness. I do this intentionally to draw light into an environment. It is very encouraging, and I always say through my faith I have been given this gift to share with others.
