Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Saggau.
Kristen, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
From Upstate New York to Venice Beach and many cities in between, Phoenix currently is my chosen sanctuary. A diverse creative background in graphic art, advertising design, visual merchandising, silver fabrication and fine art propelled my thirst for more creative outlets. My interest in antiques and vintage items and culture led me down the road of renovating an old 1934 filling station on the highway in California to become a vintage shop and flea market. This quaint shop along the coastal corridor on the way to Los Angeles proved to be the perfect venue for me to sell my vintage inspired art and upcycled furniture and wares. MYBAZAARCAR a Mobile Pop Up Gallery here in Phoenix is the modern incarnation of selling art and wares. Initially launching in April this unique startup MYBAZAARCAR LLC is owned by the partners Dr. Mark E. Kline and myself. Our mission is to engage the creative community by showcasing local artists for solo shows, and we also will feature our own art and wares for specific shows. We hope to grow with the creative community and collaborate with business owners and non-profits in the Phoenix area.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Simplicity, storytelling with a vintage sensibility describes my work and lifestyle. Florals, animals, portraits, and collages are some of my favorite themes for my paintings. I prefer to use recycled materials when possible, In addition to oil paintings and collages, I enjoy designing and making silver fabricated jewelry, and the treasure hunt for anything vintage to upcycle continues… I have been creating art for over 25 years and there are hundreds of my paintings in private collections and many more of my re-imagined furniture pieces that have found their forever homes.
Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
One of the reasons that we created a mobile pop up gallery here in Phoenix is to give artists another venue to showcase their work. Technology is a fantastic tool for artists and creative business people to catalog and sell, however it is a very crowded and competitive space. Not many creative people can afford a brick and mortar presence, and displaying in collective galleries can have challenges as well. We at MYBAZAARCAR are sensitive to the artists need to stand out and have flexibility for exhibiting their art.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Currently, I am displaying my work at MYBAZAARCAR at different events in and around Phoenix. In September we will Show In front Of The Grand ArtHaus on First Fridays. We are also On Facebook and Instagram. Also, interested artists and business contacts can reach out to us on our web page.
