Today we’d like to introduce you to Kp Jenkins.
Kp, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’m originally from Arkansas, but my dad was in the Military and was moved here nine years ago. I now live in Arizona. Most people say I’m shy, but thru dance, I become a bold and energetic person. Been dancing since I was three years old, I started dancing competitively at age 6 and have received multiple dance trophies and scholarships. The last four years I’ve been in the ballet “Snow Queen” and last two years in the ballet “The Nutcracker.” Last year I was selected for Summer Intensive classes at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York. At around ae 5, I was on a local US Gymnastics Trampoline and Tumbling team and qualified for nationals at regionals in Las Vegas. I also have a love for modeling. I’ve been in several prints and web ads, and four local fashion shows. I was selected and walked in Los Angeles Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week. I try to stay humble and grateful and do my best to be kind. My passion is dance and modeling.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My art is Dance. Dance allows me to express my feelings and emotions. I’m normally a quiet person, but dance lets me express inside feelings. I’m able to take a song and express the sequence of movements. I hope that people can feel the emotions thru my movements and develop there own love for the song. There are many forms of dance allowing more opportunity for expression.
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
For now, the applause at the end of the dance is a wonderful sound is rewarding.
I believe to succeed in dance you should always do your best. I also believe to expose yourself to different styles of dance. It is also important to be able to work with different choreographers to learn different technique and allows you to blend them all into your own working piece of art.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I competitively dance for Studio 21 Dance and participate in numerous competitions around the valley. I would like people to donate to dance programs and organization that support the art.
