Check out Karina Endsley’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karina Endsley.

Karina, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My interest in photography began when I was a small child. I was fascinated by my family ‘s history and what was preserved in a simple photograph. I knew early on that if there was a way to make “picture taking” a job, that was what I was destined to do. My first camera was given to me at the age of five. It was a hot pink, 110 film, pocket camera. I grew up taking photos of absolutely everything and learning about cameras with my grandmother. From there, I dabbled in its photography during junior high and high school. Fast forward to my first year in college where I took photography & advertising. Photography wasn’t what it’s become today so, like most college students do, I changed my career to something more stable. It wasn’t until the birth of my first son, almost 6 years ago, that I was able to dive in, make a photography business and never look back; thanks to the encouragement of my husband, family, and friends.

Today, I not only get to be home enjoying time with my two little boys, but I get to photograph adorable couples and families all over the valley. I mainly shoot outdoors, mostly because I am obsessed with the beautiful Arizona sunset. I do however have a small in-home studio for newborns, babies and cake smashes. I’m hoping to expand to a larger studio in the near future.

In addition to being a photographer, I am a wife and a mother with two handsome young boys. Our days are busy with work, school, and sports but, we enjoy being outside and traveling. I’m a coffee fanatic who has an appreciation for comedy movies, board games and rainy days. My family would probably say I take too many photos but, is there really such a thing as too many photos?!

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’m an Arizona photographer that specializes in lifestyle sessions, engagement, maternity, newborns, babies, and cake smashes. I wouldn’t say that I prefer one type of session over another because I find the beauty in all of them. I’m inspired by my surroundings, emotions (love, laughter & excitement) and I find my best work comes from sessions where I am given full creative freedom.

My style of photography would best be described as sharp, light, airy and timeless. I love using natural light and sunset backdrops. I do use a small assortment of props during my sessions however I truly believe in making my sessions all about the people in front of my camera. I work personally with each client offering them assistance on color choices, outfits, and locations.

I always try to make it an enjoyable experience for anyone I photograph. Creating a fun and comfortable environment brings out genuine smiles in everyone. Candid images have to be my absolute favorite and they tend to be my client’s favorites as well. I strive to create not only a photograph that they will hang in there home but also a memory that will last them a lifetime.

The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Photography is often not given the credit it deserves. We spend just as much time away from our families not only during sessions but, editing, correspondence, set up ‘s, billing and accounting, coordinating and so much more. It can be challenging to run a business by yourself. There is so much more behind the scenes that most people don’t see.

Sometimes, we get so caught up in the thick of it and we forget why we started. I find taking a step back and refreshing your inspiration is important. Following along with and talking to likeminded business owners is a good way to refresh your confidence. Never stop educating yourself and never give up. If there are other tasks taking up time, sometimes delegating house maintenance is a good way to clear up time to get caught up, market more, educate further and get inspired.

Often, creatives don’t rely solely on their talent to get them by either. Lots of people have part-time jobs to help manage the harder months where business might be slow. You can also try volunteering and giving back to your community. After all, what goes around comes around.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I am currently re-creating my website, however, once it’s finished, you will be able to find examples of my work and additional information by going to our website.

I’m also working on a couple projects for the upcoming months. I’ll be working with a local adoption agency to photograph new families in conclusion of their adoption process; as well as, working with a local salon which I will be photographing their charitable event, where they will be trimming hair to donate and give back to the Phoenix Children’s Hospital. It warms my heart to be able to use photography as a way to give back to others.

In the meantime, I frequently post my current projects, behind the scenes, promotions, and stories of my everyday life on Instagram. This is a fun way to stay connected with my clients and my community. Facebook is another place you’ll be able to find some of my most recent work. If you would like to stay connected and show your support, you can follow along on both Instagram and Facebook.
