Check out the Kali+ Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kali+.

Kali+, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Kali+ is an acronym for Knowledge and Limitless Inspiration with the plus sign representing positivity. I am a rapper, lyricist, and songwriter from Johannesburg, South Africa and co-founder of Falling Atmosphere. I immigrated to the U.S when I was six years old and began writing rhymes when I met my future music producer/ best friend Trill Dyll in third grade. By junior high everybody knew that I liked to rap, but never thought about doing it professionally until I was a sophomore in high school. When I was seventeen, I had to start using a wheelchair because of a rare neurological condition called Friedreichs Attaxia which affected my nervous system. At 17, I stopped playing sports and started going to a professional music studio in Phoenix, Arizona. I have now been rapping there for five years and deliver a unique flow and rhyme scheme accompanied with an incredible perspective of life through my lyrics. I love to collaborate and feature on other artists tracks as well as help with songwriting and song format. I put out a series of mixtapes and opened on a country-wide tour for Mark Battles with Falling Atmosphere in 2017 and performed in the Arise Music Festival in Colorado in 2015. When I’m not writing new bars, I like to hit the gym, watch movies, and attend concerts.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I express myself through lyrics. When I hear the beat, I hear lyrics being said or sung a specific way to it. To me, there’s something fun about staying in pocket in the beat or hitting the snare. As far as my content, my lyrics paint a picture and I have always been inspired by artists that can describe stories. To me, hip-hop is like a movie based on true events. I have been through events that most people would never understand, but somehow, I can connect to so many different people through music. What I want people to be inspired by is the fact that someone who deals with so much adversity can still do great things. I want to push positivity further.

What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
You need to work through any doubt you have and not get discouraged by your failures.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Spotify. Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, iTunes, Apple Music, etc.
