Today we’d like to introduce you to Kahlia Smith.

Hi Kahlia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always been into fashion and accessories, when I was ten years old my grandmother taught me how to embroider and make purses out of old jeans etc. so I always knew my future would be somewhere within the fashion industry. I went on to grow up and study fashion marketing & design which brought the realization that my favorite part of getting dressed is adding the finishing touches. The right jewelry can change any outfit from a five to a ten.

Last year while out of work I realized I had always had a reason why not to start my own company but there was no excuse now. The goal of AMOR DEUS is to provide high quality jewelry that can be styled multiple ways and that has helped me get where I am today. Staying focused on why I am doing this and who I am doing it for. As AMOR DEUS continues to grow we look forward to empowering women business owners, showcasing our AMOR Babes & expanding our men’s collection.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road is a little bumpy. AMOR DEUS means “Love God” in latin and each time I hit a roadblock I’d embrace my feelings and then remind myself that I am doing this with the Love of God on my side, I’ll be okay. Opening a business is scary. Opening a business in the middle of a pandemic added another level of fear. Due to being out of work I had been living off of my savings. To start AMOR DEUS I took out a huge chunk of my savings. The biggest risk I have ever done. I had a delay with my manufacturer which caused AMOR DEUS to miss Black Friday the biggest shopping day in the US, at one point we had an error with shipping that when entering your address it would say undeliverable to everyone so no one could place orders. Each time there was a delaying with printing, packaging or with my manufacturer, it would shake me to the core. So it has not been smooth and I am sure there are more bumps in our future but AMOR DEUS will continue to grow, I will continue to work hard and learn to nurture it to its full potential.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work experience is one of my favorite parts of my journey and makes me most proud. I have always had a creative mind but didn’t know much about the business of fashion. When I left for college, I left knowing I was going to learn about the pieces outside of design that make a successful company. Although I questioned it at the time my work always aligned me to learn more than I was looking for. I have worked as a photography assistant to a top Los Angeles photographer which has allowed me to photograph & interview emmy nominated actors, musicians and other celebrities. I have been an executive assistant to multiple CEO’s of jewelry and clothing companies which has allowed me to see how businesses are run. In addition to having worked in retail and interning at a major public relations firm. I enjoyed each position and they all educated me and contributed to creation of AMOR DEUS.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
A thank you for my friends and family scratches the surface on the credit they deserve. My friends and family have supported AMOR DEUS through purchases, sharing post, keeping me informed on errors they have noticed and sometimes a positive message to brighten my day without them being told it was dim. They don’t make me ask them to engage with AMOR DEUS whether on social media or the website, they do it on their own whether it’s a promotion going on or my daily post and that effort and love being shown deserves credit every day. I also want to give a thank you to @itsyagirlani on Instagram. She saw a post I made on Tik Tok, loved the jewelry, purchased the largest order from AMOR DEUS to date, and then made a video unboxing & showing of the jewelry to her followers showing how much she loved it. I did not ask nor do I have the funds to pay for brand ambassadors, so for her to do this, knowing the power of social media, out of her love for AMOR DEUS and the kindness of her heart means the world to me.
