Today we’d like to introduce you to Judith Amiel-Bendheim.
Judith, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Judith was born in Jerusalem Israel, and graduated from The Hebrew University with a bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical science and an MBA from Ono Academic College. Before becoming a ceramic and jewel artist, she practiced as a pharmacist in both the private and public sectors
Through her pharmaceutical work, she had the opportunity to travel widely in Europe, Asia and the USA. This exposure to diverse cultures and their varied artistic traditions serves as a major influence in her artistic and culinary endeavors.
In 2007, she moved to Phoenix AZ, with her husband, a native Arizonian. At that time, she decided to devote all her professional time to art. She creates unique and original ceramic and jewelry pieces. Her ceramics range from purely sculptural to utilitarian. The jewelry is created mainly from beads that come from places she has visited worldwide.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I love to cook, so I decided why not make my own dishes…. people asked me where did I buy those dishes…. that was a good sign for me to change my direction and take ceramics full time. I also make jewelry, and same thing happened, when my friends start asking me to make them some pieces… I love to create pieces that make people happy… they enjoy using them.
The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Never give up! and let your hand do the work!!
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My ceramic pieces are sold in Practical Arts, Made art boutique and Changing Hands bookstore. The jewelry is sold at Objects and For the People. I also sell my pieces from my studio at home and different art and craft events people can contact me at yamiel@cox.net
