Today we’d like to introduce you to Jsph Lior.
Jsph, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I started making music at seven years old, writing little songs recording them on my “TalkBoy” from back in the day. I really got into production at 13. My pops bought me a keyboard and I taught myself how to play by listening to the radio every day and mimicking what I heard. It’s been a journey ever since, from touring when I was 17-19 with an independent label, to now in my 20’s independently recording, mixing, mastering, producing, writing all of my music for myself and others.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My art is music my inspiration is life and imagination. From the sound of the beat, I produce to the honesty vulnerability that I try my best to display when making a song. My overall goal is to change the sound and or just give another option as to what we see as the cliche “rapper” to be. Honesty is winning right now! And should have always.
Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
The conception of being an artist is easy. The reality behind that is being an artist, it’s expensive, time-consuming, a lot of sacrifices are made, and financially, it can be unstable. I’ve been fortunate enough to make a living off music for the last couple of years by songwriting, producing, and engineering for an artist in the valley. Support is one thing, but I think as an artist, we should educate ourselves on what we really want out of being an artist. If we want to be seen and heard… cool, that’s easy. But if you are passionate about what you’re doing and what you’re doing it for being seen and heard can’t be enough, I think as an artist, if we took that mindset into what we are doing, I think we could get the right support we are ultimately looking for.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Just follow my journey, come meet me at my shows and live events, which I will be doing a lot more of in 2019 when my project is finished.
