Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Simmons.
Jessica, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Photography started for me in high school. I selected photography as an elective in my freshman year of high school and was addicted to art. From there, I started shooting tidbits here and there and then, met my husband. We began documenting the Arizona wild horses. Shooting wild horses trained my eye for clarity and framing. A friend held a shoot at my home (we have a pool) and had invited me to shoot the models. Boy did that open Pandora’s box. From there, it was all downhill into a beautiful dream. Everything from the people I collaborate with, to working side by side with my husband is such a thrill.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am addicted to Pinterest. Real original huh? I also look at architecture and urban settings to inspire. The curves of a building or the way the sun sets on a window, it’s a beautiful thing. I truly am a sucker for sunset and sunrise shots. Everyone looks amazing in that natural golden light. I use everything to my advantage to create. It never ends.
Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
I would say harder. The internet allows everyone to share at the speed of light. Local artists have a harder time because no one wants to pay a local artist cost. I feel if we worked more closely in our neighborhoods first, we would see more artists being supported.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
For now, I am on Instagram and my website.
