Check out Jasmin Elaine Rojas’ Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmin Elaine Rojas.

Jasmin Elaine, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My journey as a photographer didn’t start with having a camera as a child nor did it start with an epiphany of wanting to capture moments and images. About nine years ago, living in Mesa, I developed an adventuresome spirit for the outdoors with travels and hikes all around Arizona. I had a small point and shoot camera that I brought on trips to document my adventures. At the same time, I was going to school to study physical therapy as a career. During an internship, a patient of mine asked me to take senior portraits of her daughter. I was hesitant, but I borrowed my brother’s camera and did it. The shoot was successful for never photographing a subject before, and the mom and daughter were very pleased. After that, I assisted some events and weddings, but it wasn’t until the Spring of 2016 where my photography really took flight. In March of 2016, I took lifestyle portraits of a patient of mine who also happened to be an agency represented model. Since then the blessings of opened and closed doors brought opportunities and directed a path to where I am today.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
The majority of my art is comprised of fashion and lifestyle photography, though I do a lot of product and commercial photography and videography as well. Lifestyle portraiture would be my current and main passion right now. Each photo is inspired by the person in it: their personality, their smile, the message their eyes convey when they look straight into my lens. My hope behind my art is for the actual person in the photo to see the beautiful uniqueness that they see in themselves and that whoever views the photo afterward can see the beauty as well. I focus a lot on the eyes and the emotion captured because everyone has a story to tell without using words.

Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
I think the conditions for artists today is widely variable likely due to the advancement of social media and technology. Social media is a great platform for showcasing and promoting art, but it also has the ability to quickly diminish the value of art. An artist’s social and professional network doesn’t have to be large if each relationship values their artwork. Cities have the opportunity of promoting the work of local artists through featured articles, flyers, social media or website features, maybe a billboard program or other ways of displaying their art around the city for others to see.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My art can be viewed on my website at jasminelaine.com or on Instagram at @shotswith_jas.

I have a huge appreciation to everyone who supports my work by sharing about it online and social media, recommending through word of mouth, and of course, booking me for projects.
