Check out Jared Trask’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jared Trask.

Jared, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My journey of becoming an artist has been many years in the making. Creativity has always been my thing. As a child, I would create art from pieces of scrap from our garage, using ridiculous things for artworks. My family is filled with creative people who inspired me to become an artist, but life was still filled with uncertainty. It was difficult for me to tell what direction I was genuinely heading regarding my passion for art. Things took shape during college when I decided on a major in mass communications with a minor in commercial arts, but I still could not find a way to express my creativity or picture a secure career. I ultimately chose a career in graphic design where I could earn money and still be happy using my artistic abilities. Graphic design was my career for ten years before taking the leap of faith that brought me to this point as a full-time professional artist. It took over ten years to get myself on the path of passion. But, better late than never.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? What do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am primarily an acrylic painter with a focus on painting animals. To make my paintings unique, I employ a technique using strong contrast and bold color to create lifelike creatures that appear to be stepping out of the canvas towards my audience. My choice of art was born out of love for these creatures. The inspiration to paint them came from being around them while I was with my dad who was a rancher and from working as a veterinarian assistant at an emergency animal hospital. I could not resist loving their peaceful nature. My art is unique because I don’t just create a picture of a beautiful creature but I also write a love story revealing how the world can be a better place with animals around if we see them as more than a prey but loving beings with attractive and funny characters. I hope the messages I pass through my paintings are apparent to everyone who sees my art. I would love the next generation to see a reason to love animals as I do.

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
Fear! The fear of becoming poor as an artist has driven many very talented artists to take an office job with a monthly salary because it is difficult to figure out how to earn a living wage from what they love doing. Art is beautiful. But the world is scary. Only the courageous can survive as a professional artist because every bit of creativity and hard work passes through the judgment of those who view the work. Nonetheless, a single comment from someone who loves your work is enough to put a smile on your face and keep you going!

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
