Today we’d like to introduce you to Geoffrey Swanson.

Geoffrey, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My love for photography started in my garage, where my old roommate had band practice. I have always had a passion for music, but never been the best musician myself, so I picked up my camera and started taking pictures to contribute in some small way. What started as a whim has evolved into an obsession, shooting live events from runways to punk shows. I aim to capture some small figment of the beauty of a live performance. To frame talented artists in a light that can show the world the beauty they are creating.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My work is aimed at sharing the work of others. Phoenix is a beautiful city with a culture that does not get near the recognition it deserves. There are talented artists and musicians across the valley that need the ability to show the work they create, and I aim to capture it. Both the performance on a brightly lit stage and the moment before they step out, peering from behind the curtain at the crowd. The beats between the music and the crescendo.

Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
Our society is in a time of great conflict and division, so artists must work twice as hard to share their opinions and ideas through their medium. Art creates an opportunity to break down the walls that people build through their own perception. To represent true, deep feelings to someone, and help them see the world through another’s eyes. I aim to help break down those barriers for others, and see life outside the four walls it’s too easy to box yourself in.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My work can be seen through the pages of some of the talented artists, I work with. ZAZ Brokerage is an up and coming art broker that features the work of painters like Leter91 and sponsors events for Phoenix fashion week in partnership with The Smart Blondes, the most talented stylists in Arizona. Dad?, Sugar water, and AustnAmeliA are three incredible groups of musicians performing across the valley and creating music unique to our Phoenix culture. I am currently working on developing a site to showcase my work, and will be rolling it out before the end of the year.
