Today we’d like to introduce you to Felicia Schumacher.
Felicia, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I started out with a passion for travel photography as I’ve lived many different places and traveled extensively. After I finished law school and started practicing law, I continued photography on the weekends. Eventually, I started photographing people for a new kind of challenge. I found I loved capturing a person’s expressions and personalities in a single portrait. This led me to wedding photography, which I fell in love with. I found that my skill in handling a trial in a courtroom translated well to helping couples effectively navigate their special day, including keeping everyone calm, helping them to have a good time, staying on time, as well as producing high quality images. My passion for capturing people and helping them navigate the fun and stress of their wedding day has only grown from there!
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I create people focused images. I strive for my art to capture you in your truest form, but also make you feel beautiful, handsome, and fabulous. I want you to look at your portraits and say, wow! I can’t believe that’s me! And I get to respond that it’s all you with no photoshopping required!
My message in my art is that you are perfect exactly the way you are. I do very little editing as I focus on getting the shot right in camera. I want my art to be a true reflection of you, your uniqueness, and the true beauty of what’s around you. I love seeing my clients’ faces when they see themselves and realize that’s truly and authentically them, and they are perfect without any additions.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
The biggest challenge is conveying the value that high-priced photography has. A photographer’s prices may look high, but what goes into that price is the education, training, and experience of the photographer, the quality of the equipment and software they use, and the labor and time that goes not only into taking the portraits, but into editing them and preparing them to be sent to the client. I think of all the portraits I have of my loved ones, especially ones that have passed on, and having a high-quality portrait has been so meaningful to me. And gorgeous portraits always stand the test of time!
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
