Today we’d like to introduce you to Faun Flora.
Faun, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Music was honestly my first love. I have a musical family and so I grew up constantly surrounded by it. I remember in my younger years, my dad would play the piano and serenade me with songs by Elton John and the Beatles almost every morning before school. I eventually enrolled in piano classes at the Yamaha School of Music for a few years as a kid. As I grew older, my brother had an interest in playing guitar and was constantly practicing around the house, so I decided to pick up the acoustic guitar. My mom was always our number one fan and has supported our music careers ever since!
It wasn’t until high school that I started to dive deeper into songwriting and producing my own music. I was one of those kids who always brought their guitar to school and randomly camp out and sing/play between classes – or even during class if the teacher was cool enough to let me. I would say the interactions I had with people during those times were what sparked my interest in sharing my music. I actually use to have really bad stage fright but I’ve always dreamed of performing my own concerts. So, to get over it, I decided to join my high school choir which changed my whole perspective on performing and gave me the confidence boost that I really needed (Thanks, Ms. Ubrig!). I released my first single, “In the Darkness” online during my junior year and got an amazing amount of support from my peers. Ever since then, I have been releasing more music and playing more shows than I have ever imagined. I debuted 3 songs under the single release title “Trilogy” along with a music video for my song “The Lullaby” in the end of 2017. I am currently getting ready to drop a much anticipated song, along with a few other surprises for the beginning of 2019. My ultimate goal is to continue dropping music and a debut album, work my way up to playing bigger venues with a full band set, and maybe even tour locally and the surrounding states.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I truly strive to help people heal through music, as it was always something that has healed me in various ways. It was the only outlet I had whenever I was going through an emotional time in my life. It also has always made me feel a special type of freedom or escape, and so I would love to have other people experience that through my artwork. Although I am telling my own perspective of an experience through a song, I don’t expect others to completely understand what it’s about. In fact, it makes me happy to know that others put their own meaning into my songs in their own special way. I just want to share something that other people feel they can vibe with and connect their own emotions to.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
I think that every artist of any type of media has always faced the challenge of gaining substantial support. Unless they only do it for themselves, creating and sharing your artwork with the community is a very time-consuming process and most of the time it takes money straight out of your pocket. To put your blood, sweat, and tears into something that does not guarantee any kind of support is a very daring decision. I definitely struggle with it from time to time but I have learned that you just have to hustle and keep being confident in what you do.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My music is available on every major online music platform: Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, YouTube, etc. Check out some of my songs and let me know how you feel connected to it. I love hearing personal stories! Come to say hello and hang out at upcoming shows. You can see me announce them on social media along with some special news coming within the next year!
