Check out Diana Sprague’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Sprague.

Diana, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
What can I say, I love taking pictures, and I always have. When I was younger, I used to carry around the disposable cameras for family trips and major events until I got my first digital, point and shoot camera, which was a Canon. For any special occasion, I always had my camera in hand. It wasn’t until more recently that I decided to become serious with my interest and pursue it professionally. I was helping some close friends take their engagement photos, by helping with their dog at their shoot, while their photographer posed and took photos of the couple. I was helping provide ideas on posing, looking out for great lighting and it was this session in which I became inspired to be like that professional photographer to focus on capturing special memories for others. I bought a digital Sony camera on black Friday in 2017 and officially launched Diana Ashley Photography in the Spring of 2018. I’m incredibly thankful for all that I have learned and continue to learn throughout this incredible journey.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I focus on taking pictures of couples and families. You’ll find that a majority of my work takes place outside in the Arizona desert. The colors out there are stunning, and there is nothing like embracing your natural surroundings. We are especially lucky because Arizona also has some incredible sunsets – couple that with some cacti and you’re in for an amazing session! I love capturing people during special moments or milestones in their lives. I feel joy and purpose when I can create something for others to cherish and look back on. I love being able to hone in on my craft with each and every session that I work on, which allows me to continuously learn how to perfect my work.

Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
Art has always and will always be in the eye of the beholder. I think different generations produce and inspire people in various ways based on how artists develop through the years. The boom of social media has influenced art in a way that is widespread by offering recognition and exposure on a platform that extends beyond city limits. It’s incredibly important for artists to be highlighted and celebrated for their talent within their cities, like public forums and public events. First Friday is a great example of how Phoenix has come together to showcase local talent. This event happens on a monthly basis which allows for continual support and reward for these artists.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
