Check out David Morgan’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Morgan.

David, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
As a child, I grew up around a very creative family that supported the arts. With a Dad who was a former art teacher, I grew up watching him draw amazing pictures. Because I was a little turd and naturally competitive, I would try to outdraw him. My dad was a huge support and would get me involved in a lot of creative activities as a young child. At one point, I was actually doing face painting for kids who were the same age as me. I also grew up watching cartoons then trying to recreate the characters I saw or creating my own universe and epic battle scenes. I’ve pretty much always known that I wanted to be an artist. When I was seven or eight, I was lucky enough to meet a professional artist who was classically trained in an old masters style. At that point, I realized how far you could take art if you wanted. I also realized that I wanted to attain this level of skill and do my own thing with it. I continued to take art seriously and grew up trying to take every art class and participate in as much art related activities as I could. In my mid 20’s, I was given an opportunity to set up a little art booth on the side of University Rd. Since then, I have continued to chase my dreams and I look forward to what the future holds.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I like to keep it constantly changing. It’s my personal belief that in order for me to grow as an artist I must challenge myself with a different subject matter, mediums, styles, and mindsets. I also find no better feeling than looking at a finished piece after challenging myself and working my butt off to make it.

When I create something, I can have a lot of reasons for doing so or none at all. Sometimes it’s just art for art sake and other times, I want to put emotion into it, I want you to feel something when you look at it. Art can hold a lot of power that I don’t think everybody realizes.

I enjoy using a plethora of different mediums including acrylic, oil paint, airbrush, spray paint, pen, pencil, etc.

When people look at my art, I just want them to know that I made it for them. I love seeing peoples eyes light up and the kid in them come out when they look at my art. I love hearing their interpretations of my work or what it reminded them of.

Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
Currently, as we speak conditions for artists are okay. Marketing and networking have been made easier with the internet and social media sites. I have seen more and more opportunities for artists in our community and every year I see more and more artists enter the Phoenix art scene. The reason I don’t say its great is due to issues with artist’s being exploited. Unfortunately, that isn’t something unique or uncommon but it does make you realize your own worth. Fortunately, there are a lot of amazing art supporters and honest people as well so it all works itself out.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I am always doing different art festivals and exhibiting work in art shows. Follow me at Dmorganart on Facebook or Instagram to keep up to date with all my current activities!
