Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlotte Rose.
Charlotte, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I have always loved art! I was the kid who was constantly drawing, I was in ballet at a young age, I love singing, and I’ve always been the one who’s handed the camera on vacations. However, I didn’t start actively pursuing photography until my senior year of high school when I accidentally ended up in a photography class. I had finished all my math requirements which left me with a free hour, one I intended to fill with painting, but the rest of my schedule was so inflexible that if I insisted on taking painting, I was going to have to drop a few of my core classes. Since that wasn’t going to work out very well, I made an appointment with my advisor. When I got there, I explained my situation and asked if there were any electives available during the only hour of my day that was free. She gave me three options: I could take weightlifting, photography, or have a free hour in the middle of the day. While I’m all for fitness and a free hour was tempting, I really just wanted to take an art class, so I chose photography and ran with it. Now I am working hard to become a full-time photographer and own my own business.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I capture the feeling of moments that just can’t be put into words. I am a photographer because my life experiences have left me with a heart to serve others. To me, photography is more than just a career. Photography is my way of letting my clients know they are an intentionally created masterpiece. It is my way of reaching into the lives of families and couples to make sure they never forget how much they love each other. It is more than just snapping a pic. It is a facet through which I am able to love my neighbors and change the world one friendship, one smile, one moment at a time.
The sterotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
First off, do not put yourself into debt to chase your dreams. It is not worth it! Instead, pick up a side hustle and learn to live below your means while you are still growing. Invest wisely and find financial mentors in your life who can help to guide you to make wise financial decisions. I also recommend reading The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
