Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Olson.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My first introduction to Photoshop was back in 2008, and I feel since then my life has changed. Over the years I have designed everything from photo art to websites, logos, and business graphics with this program. Anything I want to create I can. I ran a blog design business named Hot Bliggity Blog from 2008 on using Photoshop and Indesign. Currently, I run a Photography and Graphic Design business named Casey Olson Designs where I provide my clients with stunning photos and graphics to show the world who they are (whether it’s in a business or personal sense).
In 2017 I found out that I suffer from something called Aphantasia which means I don’t have a mind’s eye. I did not realize until then that other people could create imagery within their mind. I had already been using Photoshop and a camera to create the images that I WISH I could create in my brain. Until then I had no idea other people could even do that. It was actually a very traumatic realization for me, but it also made me appreciate photography and my art so much more! Without photos (and Photoshop) I would never be able to fully recall the special moments in my life. The proper photo can not only make me remember a moment that I was able to capture and create, but it also brings back the FEELINGS that I had when I created it. To me, that is priceless.
It wasn’t until June of 2018 that I decided to make an Instagram account to share my photo art. I created it to have a space where I could post my photos and later be able to look back on the moments that took my breath away. That’s why I named it Reminiscement (which is reminisce + moment combined). It has been truly amazing to see how many people love and want to share my work! It was very unexpected, and I feel truly grateful to everyone who has supported me since I began sharing it. I actually shed happy tears about it on a regular basis. Hehe.
Please tell us about your art. What do you do / make / create? How? Why? What’s the message or inspiration, what do you hope people take away from it? What should we know about your artwork?
My main passion is composite photography and creating graphic art with both the photos that I take and photos taken of me. I love traveling and creating a picture that sums up how the place made me feel so that I can always remember it. When I make an art piece of myself I usually try to share something about me with the world through the picture. I love creating these pieces for other people as well. A passion of mine is helping people showcase who they are in a visual way they can share with others. Whether it be on the walls of their home or on their social media, blog, or website, I not only can take and create photos to showcase a person or business, but I also create custom logos, blogs, and websites so that I can make people’s online vision come true. I am very passionate about what I do and seeing the excitement from my clients when I deliver them their designs is truly the most rewarding thing in the world to me.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
I think that Instagram is an amazing place to connect with other artists! Sharing your work and receiving feedback makes all the difference. I have been creating graphics and art for nine years and I just barely made my Instagram to start sharing it. I cannot tell you how amazing it has been to connect with other artists who understand and appreciate my work. It is literally EVERYTHING! If you sit at home with your art and do not share it, I can see how that would be lonely. I was anxious before I started Reminiscement that no one was going to care about my photos…if anyone is feeling that same way you should just stop it right now! Share your art!! Connect with other artists!! The world needs to see your work. No more loneliness. 😉
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can see my work on my website caseyolsondesigns.com and my Social Media! People can purchase prints or order custom design work through my website. Another way people can support me is by not only following me on Social Media but sharing my work! I get very excited when my work is shared. One of my recent Sedona pictures got 2500 shares on Facebook after it was featured by ABC 15. Downtown Phoenix loved my photo of downtown so much they are purchasing it to use in their marketing. I can’t tell you how happy it makes me when my work is loved so much that people want to share it with others. It makes my heart explode! I am extremely grateful to everyone who supports me and my art.
