Check out Brittany Kiefer’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Kiefer.

Brittany, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I am a contemporary lifestyle painter living in the Kansas City area. At a young age, I was very fortunate to travel the world with my family, and these travels sparked a love of people and cultures that has become a very important part of who I am. I carried the interest of different people into college where I studied Studio Art & Sociology, and it continues to be a major focus of my life and body of work today.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
For the past five years or so I have painted in only acrylics. I prefer to work at a fast pace, and I enjoy the simplicity and quickness that acrylic affords. My current work studies different people (and specifically their hands), focusing on certain moments in time and the emotions that are conveyed within each. From the simple acts of getting ready in the morning to break-ups, make-ups, to the life-changing moments of bringing another human into the world, each moment in time can hold its own stories and secrets. I hope that people can appreciate what each image represents to them and remember their own special moments in time.

The sterotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Financial challenges are a real struggle for most artists. Remember that you don’t have to spend a fortune on all of the top end materials right away, or even at all. Follow your heart and use what’s available at the moment, recycle or upcycle, use found materials. Set some money aside when you make a sale to put towards more supplies and materials. Build slowly and stay focused. Every step on your journey is a story of its own.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My work is currently on display in exhibitions in Kansas and Missouri and can be seen in upcoming issues of The Rational Creature and Permafrost Magazine. My current portfolio of work can be found at artworkbmk.com where there are paintings and prints available for sale.
