Check out Bob Rabbit’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bob Rabbit.

Bob, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I am a real average Joe. I began making skateboard videos in middle school, graduated to short films in high school, and then segued into music when it became a necessity to the types of videos I wanted to make. After 2 semesters in film school, it really didn’t seem like the place to be, and so I dropped out of the program and went full speed ahead on music production for the next 5 years.

About 18 months, completely burnt out from studio work in San Francisco, I split for the desert and a fresh start. In the midst of struggling to pay rent, I put a video out on a Wednesday and wished everyone a “Happy Bump Day!” It was a hit and now, there’s been Bump Day every week for the last 61 weeks. Each week, I spend a morning at my house, writing (or learning) a new song, record it, mix it, master it, and create a corresponding video… No Matter What. One Tuesday night around week 40, I rode my bike home from Echo Coffee, a cafe I work at in Scottsdale, AZ, and as I set up a microphone to do a little work, blacked out, had a seizure, and spent a few hours trying to reorient myself. I woke up the next morning and did my Bump Day, then called my Mom and proceeded to the hospital for brain scans and an EKG. All checked out, but I was no doubt shaken up.

It seemed I needed to take better care of myself. I’ve been doing so ever since and spreading new music and videos each week, encouraging new artists to do the same and hopefully being a source of inspiration and hope for the people of earth.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I create videos, records, and culture. The videos are almost exclusively < 1-minute edits to original music and arrive on Wednesday’s to Instagram. Each one is its own “Bump Day.” Check em out! I write and record songs as well and coordinate care packages — gifts for artists and entrepreneurs to fulfill their needs to continue pursuing their passions, aspirations, and missions to become leaders of this generation. I’m currently raising funds to open a small cafe in Haiti to provide consistent food and clean water to an artist collective of Haitians I’ve been working with the past few years.

I’m making a movie about it and a record while there with my team consisting of a camera operator, sound engineer, and co-host/everything man. I do these things because it really bothers me how many people are suffering out here on this big rock called “Earth” and I try to help as many people live a little bit easier even if just for the day. You can only do so much. It’s just in my bones, and when I deviate from the creation of music or the path to great achievements, my life seems to fall apart. I want everyone in the world to find a bit of meaning in their existence and I try to be an exemplar of the process.

The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Don’t use credit cards, live simple with little means, and work with what you got. Get a job at a cafe or a low-key restaurant that will allow you to work at night so that you can spend your best hours prior to work and focus on your craft. Do this until you are so good at what you do, you can demand healthy amounts of money for what you do. Don’t get caught up in the sea of small fish battling for scraps. Be patient and be faithful and don’t quit when you have to eat shit day in, day out. It’s a marathon.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Head to my website. It will link you to my Instagram account, my YouTube account, Spotify, and anything else I’m up to these days. Also, on my website is where I post my Rabbit Notes each day, it’s a gratitude practice I do to reflect on the day and express my thank you’s for people, life, and whatever else comes to mind. I’m currently raising $5000 to bring with me to Haiti in October to start “Haitian Breeze Cafe” the home base for the artists and producers I work with and support in Haiti.

It’s a Kickstarter campaign and it ends on October 3rd, so if you read this and want to contribute, act quickly or if the campaign has ended already, head to the store on my website and all purchases go towards its upkeep and maintenance necessary beyond the profit it turns each month. God Bless!
