Today we’d like to introduce you to Billie Pickles.

Billie, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I consider myself a creativist. I grew up loving to create all types of art with my hands, and I would also say I was born with a gifted eye when it comes to style. My mother, grandmother, and aunt have always taught me the importance of fashion and it formed me as a person to incorporate it into everything I do, which has carried into my business. When coming up with Pickles + Pam jewelry, it became a marriage of the two, art and fashion, creating something special to me. The content stamped on the necklaces are not words seen everyday by rather eye-opening words/phrases which are meant to catch attention. I want other people to wear my jewelry and have it feel just as important to them as it does for me when I wear my necklace, by making it personal to them.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Pickles + Pam jewelry are individualized hand-stamped brass coin necklaces/key-chains. Stamping is a forceful technique which makes each necklace look hand-made rather than the usual machine-made look we have become accustomed to. Not only is the coin meant to look unique, but also represents the unique qualities of the person wearing it. We encourage people to pick a word or phrase that represents their most laughable, quirky, or cringy characteristic. We want people to wear their title proud and promote everyone around them to accept, love, and laugh at the distinct traits which make humans most endearing.

Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
Current events absolutely drive Pickles + Pam. Whether it’s a strong movement going on or a new word being born by millennials. An example is the Me Too movement. I believe that each person has something to say and a way to impact our local and national community. Pickles + Pam allows a person to be whoever/whatever they want by wearing their own personalized necklace with a word that strongly represents them. Our mantra is “Say it before anyone else can!” Meaning, don’t let anyone tell you who you are. You already know who you are, so own it!

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
