Today we’d like to introduce you to Bebe Sprinzl.
Bebe, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My story starts with two of the most important women in my life, my mom and my grandma. My mom was an artist – though not professionally, she was the true definition. As a young girl, I grew up watching her sketch, paint, carve wood and refinish antique furniture. She always pushed me to do something with my art. As I got into high school though I felt that there was a strong stigma to being labeled an artist, not just from my peers but from some of my educators as well. It took me well into my adult years before finally embracing that being an artist is just a part of who I am and I shouldn’t be ashamed.
My grandma filled in the gaps by giving me my mad yarn and sewing skills. She was strict and serious with her work, but she allowed for enough fun to make it a well-rounded experience. She is also the one who helped me grow my patience with the process of creating, which is an important element.
Fast forward to present day, and I am putting into motion the very things my mom had willed me to do so many years ago. Cholla Bloom Photography and Design is the perfect place to channel my creative spirit and love of people. I get to serve people around me with long-lasting memories.
While I no longer have those two special ladies here to guide me, I do have an amazing husband who encourages me to chase my dreams and stretch my creative muscles, as well as three beautiful children who get to grow, watch and hopefully embrace their inner artist one day.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a newborn, child, and family portrait photographer. I love custom designing each session to bring out the joy and special sparkle unique to you and your occasion.
I work from both my in-home studio and the great outdoors. I cannot stop crafting and am always looking for my next project. As a product of that, I make most of my own props. A recent example is a large wooden crescent moon I built and painted for use with my Cholla Sprouts portraits (newborns through toddlers). If I cannot make a prop, I try to shop local and keep it homemade if possible. For the most part, you can find me creating in the days leading up to a session. That includes outfits, tutus, headbands, blankets, sign art, or paper flowers…the list goes on.
If you have an idea or vision, I will not stop until I can see it come to life – even if that means learning a new craft.
In addition to photography, I am also a graphic designer. I use and combine many forms of media to create custom logos, designs, and invitations/announcements.
I really enjoy creating. Every detail is an important piece to your portrait or project.
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
Success as an artist to me is being able to create your vision using any media and see it come to life. Whether it’s personal or public, it is still a success!
To succeed as an artist, my advice would be to get out of your own head. So many people want to create, but they label themselves as “bad” or “not being able to learn.” If you want to create something, go for it. Don’t let yourself be held back by fear of failure. The process should make your heart happy and have an element of fun.
Also, take others with a grain of salt. There will always be someone who is more experienced, and you cannot let that deter you from bringing your own special element to the creative world.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
