Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Corbett.
Austin, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Growing up, I was always very outgoing, spastic, and creative. I remember being so passionate about films and TV shows and knowing that one day, I would want to do something in the industry. I also remember that all I ever wanted to do was make people smile, even in some of their darkest moments. When YouTube came around, I began watching creators do just that. I got my first camcorder when I was around ten years old, and from there I began creating whatever came into my crazy brain. I created a channel called Bobby’s Adventures where I would create claymations and stop-motion adventures with LEGO characters. I decided to quit stop motion and try my hand at a vlog style approach, thus creating the channel that I have now, AustinIsaLemur. I soon got into the game Minecraft and fell in love with it. The aspects of building and adventuring inside of the game were very similar to what I did with LEGOs. I began posting videos and eventually found myself in an amazing community of other Minecraft content creators. In that community, I met my two best friends, Kayla and Cassi. They inspire to always be true to myself and create content that makes me happy.
Along with my channel, I began dabbling with song production and lyric writing, because music is such a huge part and influence in my life. In the span of a little over a year, I was able to create and share my debut album, Ferris, which is out on every music platform available.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My YouTube Channel:
On my YouTube channel, I create family-friendly Minecraft content, along with occasional adventure vlogs with friends and family. I love creating stories and sharing my passions with the world. I do fun mini-games, either with friends or on my own, as well as modded series where I get to explore and try new things. I am currently writing a Role-play, which is a complete scripted and voiced TV Show that is told and acted out through the game. I have a full team helping me put this together, and it will be airing on my channel sometime in the next year.
The main thing that I want to be taken away from my videos, is a smile. YouTube for me growing up was always the place that I could turn to when I was alone or in a dark place. I could sit and watch a video and laugh, without having to think about any of the problems in my life. I want people to be able to do the same thing with my videos. I have so much fun with what I do, and I’m extremely happy and grateful to be part of such a loving and creative community.
My Music:
Music has always been a huge part of my life that I knew I would want to pursue. I grew up channeling my thoughts and pain into lyrics, as it was almost a version of therapy for myself. There is something very soothing about being able to create art with your emotions. Sometimes, it can be funned playful but other times it can be very emotional and dark. My favorite part about songwriting is wordplay. Being able to find the perfect words to put together to convey a certain idea or emotion. For the past three years, I have been teaching myself the ins and outs of music production while continuing to write my own lyrics and melodies.
As soon as I began creating a couple of songs, I couldn’t stop. It was extremely addicting and helped me deal and cope with some issues I had going on in my own life. I started dabbling with ideas of what I could do for an album, and the idea of a Ferris Wheel came into my head. When you think about it, life is just like a Ferris wheel. Sometimes, you are at the top of the world, and you are extremely happy and living your life. Other times you are at rock bottom, very depressed, secluded, and in pain. It’s a vicious cycle that keeps going around and around and there’s no way to get off of it, you’re always buckled in for the ride. I wanted this album to be a visual representation of emotions that I had going on in my life. From heartbreak to depression to love and feeling petty towards others, I wanted this album to be original and be 100% me. There are definitely some sad songs but they are balanced with some upbeat bops that make you want to dance and have fun. It has a very Pop/RNB vibe to it.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
One of the biggest challenges I see nowadays is the fear of people judging you and trying to humiliate you for what you love to do or create. This is something that I had to overcome with both my YouTube channel as well as my music. It’s very important to understand the fact that not everyone is going to like you or what you create, but they don’t have to. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. As long as you are happy and passionate about what you are creating, don’t let anyone stop you from achieving what you want.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
